I think Sony could discover the cure for cancer tomorrow and MS would probably oppose that, too. That's really how ridiculous and irrational the whole thing is.

And maybe that door swings both ways, but it seems that more of that tone comes from MS's people than Sony's.

The MS that I remember back in the day would have done something like this:

Get VC-1 out there. Have it in the loop with all the studios. Get a nice fat royalty check every time it gets used on a disc. Watch the dollars soar as that unified high def format sells a lot more than what's going on now with either formats combined totals and everyone wins.
So pretty much MS want WWIII, just because they're mad at Sony.

What did Sony do to them? Sony just jump into the gaming world with PS1, and whoop ass. So then Microsoft felt like jumping into the gaming world as well, by releasing X-box, which not only didn't do so well, but also got their ass whoop by PS2. So now it's personal huh? MS/360 agains't Sony as a whole?

What is MS gonna do next? Create their own movie studio in Hollywood call, Micro-Film? Or Micro-Media?
Trying to compete with Sony Pictures.

So if this whole movie download service deal is a flop, what next for them? Jump into hi-def disc with X-Ray? A cheap rip-off of Blu-ray?

MS, please stick to perfecting software, leave the gaming world and movie world alone. PLEASE!

MS doesn't want people buying movies be it hd dvd or blu-ray that they could download from them instead.
Soon MS will release hardware for their download service much like the Apple tv box, but I presume it will have varying choices of built-in hard drives. http://www.apple.com/appletv/
Once one side wins this war there will be a large rush to buy hd players and movies, this would do very little to help MS.
Don't take my word for it, check out what Michael Bay said: "Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads"
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ty_Tricks/1235
Many of us have believed this for quite some time.

Yeah, but having money doesn't always mean someone will sell something to you.

I don't "believe" it...it is pretty much common knowledge at this point...

MS pockets are DEEP. just in the gaming world they spent upwards in the hundreds of millions just to keep games exclusive to their consoles...they dont play fair and we already saw that when they sucker punched us with the paramount deal...

i think we are all jumping the gun. we went thru this hair-pulling junk in october when a troll posted that Warner was going BR. Here we are doing the same stuff all over. if we just keep buying more movies than hd-dvd, we will come ahead. until the fat lady sings, the war is not over.

true...but it's not a troll this time...

not that we need to get worked up..

...oh too late..

but I still think everyone is being reserved after all of the sources that are implying that there is definitely smoke to this...

But you wouldn't want to get caught up in mixed smoke signals now would you?

Anyway, does anyone have the numbers for Paramounts sales since they became traders? I'm curious to see if there's a downward trend.

I remember Microsoft being against the whole HDTV thing in the early 90s. Bill gates went to the mat to try to keep keep digital TV at 480p. Said it would cost too much to implament. Not suprised that he is again pushing a 2nd rate format.

I don't think MS is mad at Sony; they just want all of the movie download pie. That's why the Duddites are happy to push the "good enough" mantra.

And MS is doing nothing to help perfecting software. Their stuff is poorly designed crap at best.
