It makes sense if Blu-ray alone would remain less than Blu-ray + HD DVD. Otherwise it's moronic.

Sure, there would be some short term reduction. But, if it resulted in the quick end of the war, everyone could market this fact and HDM could explode.

Of course.

The sooner we get to a unified format with a 100 percent studio support, the better it is for everyone.

If Warner grasps and see this fairly easy concept, then I hope they act on it ASAP.

With these two possibilities, I can't believe they are still sitting on the fence. WB has frequently taken a leadership role in the past. It's time they did now by going Blu without delay.

They'll cream everything they can from HD-DVD this Christmas and not say a word until early January, much like Sony denied the PS3 would have a price cut.

I will be very careful with this.

The deal includes get-out clauses in which Viacom can leave, but neither of those events would trigger any of the clauses.

No a studio switch would not directly trigger an out-clause in the Paramount deal... but indirectly through sales targets it no doubt would, eventually.

The guy is a Vice Chairman of a movie studio with several big hits. He knows a thing or two. The real question is, is he being honest or trying to just fan some BS. I dont see what he would have to gain by fanning BS but Im sure there is something somewhere.

I'd love to know which events would trigger those clauses.

Wait, let me guess. Now all of the sudden Bill Hunt is the favorite blogger of HD DVD'ers? Before, he was a Blu schill and ass-hole, but now what he says is true.

I don't beileve Hunt is an insider. i know a lot of people will disagree with me in this forum, but while i love his stance on blu-ray, he gets things wrong and is a little off a lot of the time IMHO.

Man, please let this be true. Having Warner Blu-ray-only will guarantee us a win. Having them on HD DVD-only would make this war even longer and stupid.

Now, let's just hope that the LionsGate CEO knows what he's talking about...

I'm sure within the next couple days, we will see a a Warner Bros. PR person come out and say that their stance hasn't changed, blah, blah, blah.

An alternate scenario could be that Warner stays neutral for most of first quarter, while Universal throws Blu-Ray a few bones at CES 2008. Wouldn't that be interesting?

I agree - this would be something only people deep in the know like Penton, Paid, studios heads, BDA members, etc., would know about and Hunt isn't in that category.

Might be the first things the red ants don't lambast him over though.

I want it to be true just so this whole "war" thing can go away and high definition media can get the attention that it deserves and the battle can shift where it needs to be and that is high definition media against dvd.
Toshiba is more than welcome to make blu ray players and come aboard and profit from all of it.
The bottom line is that if you want it to be true, buy the hell out of Harry Potter and Blade Runner.
Buy them as gifts if you know anyone with a PS3.
