I used to work at a Target and the electronics section is getting a refresh. One of my old team leaders told me this when I was in the other day and I asked if movies were going away. They said no, but I wonder if they just meant it's going to turn into the new release kiosk only...

So, they redid my store over the weekend (reset) and they cut the movie section in half. They filled it with books. Now the movie section is two four-foot sections and one four-way. That's it.

I've never seen anybody buy a book at Target.

Someone's gotta be because the section is constantly expanding. Half of the movies were replaced by books and a couple aisles down is another large book area.

Same with mine it was down to just one of those 4 sided shelf things I'm thinking that's what people mean by "new release kiosk". The two Best Buys I've been to recently have also gone down to one shelf and a few of those things.

I bought a hard-cover book there two weeks ago. 40% off the cover price. Pristine condition.

I was thinking the same thing when I was looking at all the new books that have taken over the movie section. It's a shame as I used to buy so many discs at Target. Only bought like three books but that's because they don't carry what I read.

In store the book selection sucks. But online its much much better. Similar to their movie selection.

The only book I've ever bought at Target was Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. I wish I had gotten into collecting earlier when physical media was still booming.

I buy and read a fair amount of books, but have never gotten one at Target. They're selection is, ehh. Would much rather see that space still devoted to movies.

The local thrift stores get a great selection, and are priced either 90% off, or $1.

I'm a periodic book reader but I rarely buy my books new, as I read them once and get rid of them.

I bet for every one of us who can't understand why they decrease physical movies to make room for more books, there are five who only rent or stream that can't undersatnd why there's so much space dedicated to physical movies.

And that's why space for physical movies is decreasing in retail b&m

Target said it plans to start the holiday shopping season in October (though didn't they do that last year?), so looking forward to see what they do.
