Please somebody, tell me that I remember correctly, and that Lustig said he"ll be doing a 4K remaster of Daughters of Darkness.

This transfer is amazing I wish Blue Underground still had City Of The Living Dead/Gates Of Hell.

Yes, I need Conquest on Blu! Watched it last night on DVD again and its always refreshing just how trippy, weird, and violent it is (not to mention the soundtrack).

None, according to IMDB. I'm sure it's been ripped off plenty of times.

Yeah I was gonna say, if it's up to Grindhouse I don't think it'll be happening, at least not any time soon. The extras on it are phenomenal though and it's definitely the "best" (and I use that term LIGHTLY) version of that particular scan. They did a lot of work colour-correcting it to make it look the best it could, so I think based on that, they probably aren't willing to revisit the title anytime soon.

Which is a shame, because you can't polish a turd.

EDIT: You can polish a turd I guess, but at the end of the day it's still a turd.

The Austrian XT Video release has a better presentation of the same scan.

I have both and the difference is visible in motion too (Xt Video is more filmic). Kept the Grindhouse Releasing edition for the extras.

I agree, although there was a recent remaster of the movie by Arrow...

But with that said, I'm inclined to say it looks actually kind of ugly and lacks detail (unless the comparison here is of an older version?)

That shot looks fine in motion (not ugly), and the BU is artificially sharpened, giving you "detail" over the natural Arrow.

In fact when people say that they think the Arrow looks ugly, I wonder if they're only going by caps. That and the fact that they're used to the older horrible scan that was sharpened etc etc.

The Arrow is a very nice filmic presentation.

The only thing that pisses me off about this new Blue Underground 4K restoration is that I've had my Arrow restoration sitting on my shelf for over a year and I never got round to watching it. I could have saved me some cash by holding off!

At the risk of opening up a can of worms in the wrong thread, I thought it was kinda ugly, and now I have a calibrated set, so that's not the problem. I'm not saying it isn't how the movie is supposed to look, but the grain in the daytime scenes is pretty overwhelming and, for me, distracting. And especially after watching the beautiful new Zombie and Maniac restorations, I just wish it had looked more like them.

I have found the grain to be strong (in some scenes) yes, but never overwhelming. Are you taking about the scene where the gravediggers eat lunch, for example?

A friend come round the other day, and he checked out some of Arrow's COTLD. He was beaming, and then looked sad, saying "look at the shit that just got released by Artus over here in France" (new 2K scan, scrubbed of grain: http://retro-hd.com/tests/blu-ray/2659-frayeurs.html)

If there's one MEGA let down about Stephen Thrower's Beyond Terror: The Films of Lucio Fulci, it's that it doesn't go into technical info that could help us understand why this film looks the way it does.

It's pretty much every outdoor scene. It's sort of a repeat of the Hellraiser situation for me. I totally get why people want the original look of the movie, and I'm not arguing for the scrubbing of grain or anything like that. But it just looks bad to me aesthetically, and I actually turned it off after about half an hour. Maybe some of that was having unrealistic expectations, and I probably need to give it another shot. I just read Shingster's comments over on the release's actual thread about why it looks the way it does, and it helped put things in perspective. But even if can process all of that and settle into the grain, I suspect I'll still find it kinda ugly.

IMO the Arrow Zombie is more than worth owning purely for the commentary track. I rarely watch commentaries, but I love that one and have watched it multiple times. I'm definitely keeping the release for it. Any time I want to watch the movie without a commentary I'm obviously going to go for this, but Stephen Thrower + Alan Jones is a match made in heaven. They're so great together. IMO that track is as rewatchable as some of those John Carpenter/Kurt Russell ones.

This one has the 50th commentary this year from Troy Howarth.

Yeah I'll be holding on to my arrow release for the extras, more than worth the price I paid for it, but if I'm being totally honest with myself I have to admit I probably will never get round to watching any of the extras on it. I only really explore discs these days as research for a review (or if I am reviewing the disc) or podcast, and I really don't do many reviews or podcasts anymore!
