I thought both movies were boring and some books should never attempt to be motion pictures as the book is unfilmable and not film friendly as i'm a hater of both the Lynch monstrosity and the Sci-fi mini-series. And what i was saying is we have our own opinions on Dune, l thougt Lynch was the wrong director and even he himself wants to pretend like he never made it and he went on to do better films as he should stick to independent films and not blockbuster hollywood films as that is what he did with Blue Velvet. And Dune is one of the worst films i've ever seen.

For years I heard the same story about another "unfilmable" book(s).

Hes always bashing Lynch's Dune. He hates it so much he has to keep telling us about it in this thread. I reckon he secretly loves it

I agree that both versions filmed aren't very good or true to the book (Lynch disowns his own movie for good reason). But I disagree that it's unfilmable (especially now). They just need to find the right filmmaker for the job. It'll happen one day.

I don't know. The book is loaded with character thoughts and Irulan's writings. The need for constant exposition really makes a film version problematic. I think they might have to go all in where we hear Paul's thoughts all the time.

Yeah, the DE extended disc is just about awful. See my comparisons below to U.S. theatrical BD.

Yeah, I guess so. I am willing to sell it to anyone that wants it.

I still feel the 2.39:1 transfer on the 2006 steelbook DVD is the best available. The DE disc is definitely an upscale of a SD source and a poor one at that.

I still think its unique even though its far from perfect (especially the end). Chronicles of Riddick borrowed a fair bit from it for starters.

A lot of films have 'borrowed' from Lynch's Dune it seems.

I think Dune is a movie I need to watch again. I enjoyed it but I haven't seen it in a while.

It will blow your mind as it does mine each time I watch it. It is one of my all time favorites. I ordered the 3D version last week. It is scheduled to be released on Nov 11. Can't wait to watch this one in 3D.

Well, I did find one problem with the German BD of Dune (2000). No English subtitles to only appear when the other language is being spoken like the DVD had.

Hate to burst your bubble but the 3D version is absolutely atrocious. It's not even up to the level of the lowest-quality US conversions. It's absolutely dreadful and 100% unwatchable. Returning it unopened for a refund is your best option. I'm a huge 3D fan and some conversions look amazing but this isn't even 3D.

The image quality is just as bad as the 3D.

My bubble has been busted so many times that I am surprised that I even got a bubble to burst anymore. Anyway, the blu 3D arrived today in the mail. Too late about opening it up. Like you, I am huge 3D fan and love the technology a lot. I will watch this one with a grain of salt and a six pack and a bucket of popcorn and I'll get back with you on the outcome.

I got my fingers crossed in hopes this will be halfway decent 3D. Besides, it only cost $10 Euros, which isn't a ballbuster, but then again, I still got my fingers crossed. I'll give some feedback after watching.

Oh, before I forget, the blu is region free, so I can watch it on any 3D savvy setup.

A new french 30th anniversary disc is coming soon. Wonder how that will look. This movie needs a 4k scan instead of all different releases.

I know that I was not impressed by the new DE 30th Anniversary release: http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...d_multiID=2052

The U.S. release still takes the cake.

I have the Aventi French blu-ray and the colors are way too bright with blown out contrast. Great detail though. I hope they do better with this new 30th Anniversary Edition.

I will be shocked if it looks better than the U.S. disc. The only way to make it look better is a new master with AVC instead of VC-1 with a higher bitrate.
