They're wide releases. Should be up at GRUV, Walmart, and others soon enough. I do suggest people lock in orders at Amazon just to be safe, as some will list it much higher. If another retailer happens to have it lower, Amazon will probably lower theirs too.

Yeah I already got burned on Tombstone. Didn't pre-order at $41 and then it shot up to $55 before going OOS. Hopefully the rumors are true and they'll be re-pressed.

The DNR applied to JP1, so is that actually applied to the current master or is it applied to the 4K subset (for some reason)? So for example if there is a DCP of JP1 which I imagine there is, would it thus have this same DNR as it’s baked into the master?

I personally like the 3D mix and have muxed it with the current 4K transfer, I would prefer that mix to be the basis for a new Atmos mix.

Hopefully they improve the transfer for JP1.

I assume these will be BD-100 discs considering we're getting the legacy features as well.

I've never gotten the impression that he cares too much about home video releases like some directors do.

Who knows, they might do a Warner Bros and dump it all on a BD66, leaving only about 40gig for the actual movie.

Something something, HEVC is so amazing that it does not need nor require a lot of data to produce a good enuff image, blah, blah.

Whilst it’s true that a lower bitrate encode can look better than a higher bitrate one (see Shout’s Point Break vs the UK Icon release) I think you reach a point where bitrate starvation becomes a detriment to the image. Having said all that, the encoding by Universal is usually pretty good so we’ll see.

Universal's not allergic to using BD100.

Spielberg's all-in on DV & Atmos now, so I'm not surprised his films are finally getting the treatment.

Also looks like Universal's leaving DTS:X behind.

Anything is possible, but I have seen ZERO chatter or even rumors of new 4K scans for these, and now they release in 2 months, seemingly $teelbook$ only, just in time for JW Rebirth?

The only thing that would take the p*ss more is Universal announcing the new masters have been enhanced with AI.

But sometimes miracles happen

I agree that allocating a lot of bits alone does not guarantee a great final output, it is dependent on how finessed the encoding parameters are tailored for any given material.

But it boggles my mind that anyone argues that it is acceptable to leave higher fidelity in transparency to the source on the table in rationalizing paltry encode sizes; especially for film based content which absolutely benefits from more generous encoding sizes.

All that really matters is the end result though. Perhaps rhe end result is more likely to be X when the disc is Y, but at the end of the day that's all meaningless as a point of review.

I want to believe it’s an actual real remaster like what Universal recently did with Shaun of the Dead and not just a slapdash cash grab.

Gruv should get this, yes? Since it's Universal?

Yes, they should be posted on there soon, I imagine. There's a couple others Steelbooks coming in June too including Jaws, and M3GAN, so maybe they'll all be added at/around the same time.
