- Addition of the School Ruins scene in the jungle
- Addition of new animal, its introduction scene, the hunt scene involving it, and its involvement in the final battle
- Some extended Night Jungle sequences during Jakes training
- Addition of Navi attack on humans and more on the lead up to the destruction of the tree
- Extended battle sequence with Quaritch at the end
- Addition of an emotional scene at the end of the movie

Probably a few more things as well.
That sucks to hear. But then again, you sound like the list is incomplete so maybe there's still a chance. I guess we'll see.

The scenes I listed should make up about 6 and a half minutes. I think that pretty much settles whether it will be included.

Like I said, it will definitely be in the new Blu-Ray, and it should look fantastic, as the effects are already finished.

I agree with Duffy though, as much as I would love to see the scene back in the movie, I absolutely love the way the current opening is cut, perfectly goes with the music as well.

"Avatar" will be coming to Blu-ray in 3D this November after all, but it won't be available for purchase or rental in stores or online alongside the previously announced Fox Ultimate Edition 2D version.

As your attorney I would recommend you to see it in proper Imax as soon as possible. It's an amazing experience. You've never seen anything like that before. BD is great, but not that groundbreaking.

About "extra". It wouldn't change movie, just explore it a bit. Personally I prefer all extended versions of Cameron's movies. Can't wait to see it again in Imax on big screen.

Cause DVDTown doesn't know what it's talking about. As usual.

dvdtown is not a good source for release dates or info, so I would take that with a grain of really cheap salt.

Regarding the re-release of the film and the extra nine minutes that will be added, the Oscar-winner said he'll also be adding footage to the film's eventual special edition DVD. "We're doing a longer version for the DVD that is 16 to 17 minutes longer," he said, "but you'll have the choice: You can watch [the nine-minutes-longer version] or you can watch the original if you want to."
I wonder if this is the cut they were talking about that would include unfinished footage? Though back then they said it was 30 minutes, so somethings changed

Or it could it possibly be more finished footage? Lets hope so

There is a 98% chance it'll be 16:9, since that's the same aspect ratio as the original Blu-ray release and also the same aspect ratio as it was shot in. James Cameron says he chose this ratio because it gives the screen more height.

I know it shouldnt be 3D.
Cameron, Jackson and Lucas have specifically spoken out on why they implemented 3D: For theaters only.

Since the inception of DVD and 5.1 home theaters, less and less people saw a reason to go out to the theaters. Might as well just wait four months to watch it on home video.

Then we at home get insanely awesome 16:9 1080p HDTV's; Now there's really no reason to go to the theater.

Jackson, Lucas and Cameron wanted the 3D experience to be exclusive to theaters to get us out of our house.

It costs a family of four over $60 to go to the movies and buy two drinks and two snacks today, so there'd be no reason for us to go to the theater if we get the same experience at home.

Default aspect ratio for Avatar

I have not seen the movie yet in the theater or on Blu-Ray, I have been waiting to buy because it was my understanding that it was released in some theaters in 2.35 : 1, I thought that the SE version might be "special" by being in cinemascope 2.35.

In the Blu-Ray version of Night at the Museum, Battle for the Smithsonian there is a trailer for Avatar that plays in 2:35 to 1 and it looks great. Just seems strange to me that they would not release a Blu-Ray version in this format. I have not bought the current version of the movie because with my 130" 2:35 : 1 screen I really try to concentrate on only buying movies in this format if possible.

You could always get a pull-down 16:9 screen around the same size then you can enjoy 1.78:1 titles.

Default Avatar format

I already have masking for watching 16:9 1.78 :1 media. But the impact of any film on a true wide screen is so much better.

Many movies I don't have a choice so I can accept the more normal image size but Avatar was one that I really thought would and should be released in Cinemascope. My understanding of it being shot in 16:9 was for the 3D version as 3D does not work as well with the wider screen. Clearly there was some version done in cinemascope because I have seen the trailers in that format.

Well as I've said, James Cameron shot Avatar in 16:9 because he wanted more height. If you look at some of the aspect ratio comparisons of the 2.35:1 and the 16:9, then I think you'll understand hwo it looks much better.

I'm afraid you're unlikely to see Avatar if you just stick with buying movies in 2.35:1, since you're one of the very few with a TV in that ratio. And because Avatar was shot in 16:9, then it'll remain that way for all future releases.

In my view, you really ought not to concentrate on 2.35:1 releases, because then you are pretty limited to what titles you can get, and you're also likely to miss out on movies that look great, such as Avatar.

Since I have only been buying blu-ray since Feb. if I am only willing to buy 20 movies a month I am first looking for movies that I want in cinemascope. There are more movies out there than I think most people realize, more in cinemascope than aren't in the ones that I have been looking at. I have bought 16:9 movies and will continue to in the future but given a choice between buying two movies that I have equal interest inm format can and will be the deciding factor. If at some point it is clear that Avatar will not be released in cinemascope then I will certainly buy the current version.

I still don't understand why previews would have appeared on other DVD's in Cimeascope if they had no intention of releasing the movie in that format.

Based on this story I will just buy it in its current version and not wait longer. As I mentioned earlier I have masking to watch 16:9 and if that is how the director saw it in filming then that will be the best way to watch it.

I agree that a wide screen format (such as anything from 2.2:1 to 2.39:1) has much greater impact if height is held constant, or actually increased for the larger formats (see below), in a home projection system.

I have seen 3D work well in a wide screen AR in the past.

Not that it matters, but CinemaScope was the trade name for a process that is long dead, although some of our favorite classic films were shot in it. Panavision was markedly superior, and used an aspect ratio identical to the one CinemaScope finally settled on after the combination of stereo magnetic and mono optical soundtracks on the prints became common (2.35:1 at first, then changing to 2.39:1 in the 1970s). The only downside of Panavision was that they didn't twist arms to compel people to make the master recordings in stereo mag the way Fox did for a while with CinemaScope. Most of my Panavision favorites were in stereo, though. I think all 70 mm films were recorded in stereo. If you like the film technique and storytelling style used with these wide processes, check out a good article called "On CinemaScope" by Charles Barr (?). It was written before Panavision.

I think one can have one's cake and eat it too with my all time favorite aspect ratio of 2.2:1, which was used by several of the 70 mm processes (Todd-AO, Super Panavision 70, etc.). One can have the feeling of height that Cameron is lauding, as well as a rather sweeping width. This is especially true if it is projected approx 25% higher than 35mm, and 2.2 times that wide, which would make it physically both higher and wider than 35 mm Panavision and CinemaScope.

Likely because they used the theatrical trailers for these trailers.

The best way to watch it is as the director intended.

And Avatar is being presented in the aspect ratio that James Cameron intended.

You might want to wait a couple of more months as the 'EXTENDED EDITION' is on its way. You have waited this long, you might as well wait just a little bit longer for a better version.
