With all the talk of risers, I ended up getting the Subdude on Amazon... anyways, I saw no difference whatsoever for my sub (Boston HPS-12HO). It still rattles my windows, walls, and closet door. I'm guessing it's because the subwoofer was designed differently and is supposed to give more feedback to the viewer (on the couch). I'm going to go drop it off at the post office.

I think you should build a riser where it takes it off of the floor by about 10"-12". It doesn't appear you are getting the necessary isolation to reduce the vibrations with your subdude. I think raising the sub higher may help quite a bit.

OK, here is a step by step pictorial of how I made my sub-riser. I hope the pics download properly, as I think I got it figured out!

Here are all of the supplies I used

the legs are now attached

I attached a rubber welcome mat to go under the carpet to help further isolate the sub from the riser

The finished product, just after painting

Now upright to get a better idea of how it looks

A picture with my SVS sub on top.....although I have since moved the location of the sub in this pic

Thanks erict!

I can't rave about it enough. It is the first thing anyone see's when they walk into the room, and always ask what it is....they don't even think it is a sub....LOL!! Performance is awesome, it gets low, down to 18Hz and is powered by a 325 watt amp. The thing weighs 60 lbs and at 3 feet tall, almost 4 feet tall on the riser, it's even bigger than my 4 yr old daughter! It has not had one issue with any scene, I think it even wants me to push it harder....that's how incredibly tight and balanced it is with my set-up. Add in the cylinder aesthetic value and it down right sexy look, and what else can I say.....except, I want another!!! LOL!!!

Make sure you put a thick area rug under the subwoofer. Area rugs are cheap and have several benefits:
  1. Make the subwoofer and the risers more stable.
  2. Absorb nasty noises coming out of ports.
  3. May reduce the interaction with the naked wood or tile floors.

I do have a rug BD (with add'l exercise foam that I have used previously under the rug, can you see the grey rug underneath the sub in my previous post?)...I even added some foam under the SVS riser platform to help absorb even more of the frequencies and to keep it from making friends with that ceramic floor.

Congratulations. It looks good.

It is the first time I have seen a receiver used for sound dampening instead of polyfill.

That was an ingenious idea allowing for add'l space to put your receiver there. Considering your set-up, that was very clever! Looks real good by the way, practically professionally made.

Well there was no room for a stripper on a pole as previously suggested, so I had to go with the next-best thing....

I was concerned about vibrations harming the receiver performance, but I haven't noticed anything like that. The top shelf has that auralex Sonofiber to dampen it on top and the bottom one has carpet padding, plus I found some extremely dense polyurethane packing foam to throw under the whole thing.

Default My 15" DIY sub now seating on the RISER

My RISER is made of 4 pieces of 2"x3" wood panel for the sides and 4 pieces of 3"x3" legs. With the wheels attached the Riser stands 12" above the floor. I am still thinking how to put nicely the foam materials on the space below the sub.

I welcome comments and ideas please...Thanks

Nice job jerix ! ON WHEELS TOO, That is A first !
There are many ways to attach the foam , Glue ~ Staples ~ Nails that will work ! I have all my acoustic foam on my walls & ceiling attached with finish nails & the head of the nail is hidden in the foam !
1 suggestion would be to add some carpet to the top of the riser for absorption . It will help !!

Put a thick area rug under the riser and also use something under the wheels so that they do not move. Check these links.
