Canada Alliance Titles 8/4/09: Blade 2, Blade Trinity, Mimic, Hannibal Rising

More titles coming from Alliance on August 4th. Those that already bought Blade on blu-ray & are happy with it (even though its the incorrect ratio), should be even more pleased to see the sequels coming too(Trinity may be the wrong ratio as well, but Blade 2 WILL be 1.78:1). It is unknown which cut of Blade Trinity this will be as well. Plus this September sees the major release of the Hannibal Lector trilogy from Fox/MGM, and you can almost complete that now with Hannibal Rising (now all we need is Manhunter!). Canada also gets a 'Premium Edition' of Sin City on the 4th, which will include all of the extras from the recent US 2-disc edition.

Blade 2
Blade Trinity
Mimic
Hannibal Rising

Canada finally gets the 2-disc Sin City release on Aug. 4th! See/buy @ Amazon or Axelmusic.

-----

Also on August 11th, Alliance is re-releasing Shoot Em Up, The Punisher, The Golden Compass, No Country for Old Men, The Mist, Kill Bill V1 & 2, Pan's Labyrinth, Memento, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Gangs of New York and The Brothers Grimm all as 2-disc sets. I'm assuming that the second disc (or maybe 3rd in the cases of The Mist & Golden Compass) is either a digital copy or makes the set a DVD combo... Alliance hasn't supported the whole digital copy trend, so this may be them finally getting into it. No details yet, so we'll find out when they hit stores.

EDIT: These new 2-discers are basically what I originally assumed they would be. The previous blu-ray, packaged with a DVD of the film plus a lenticular slipcover! Price at Best Buy will be 22.99, so not too bad price-wise. This line is called 'Blu-ray Essentials'. The Mist, Golden Compass & I think Journey to the Center of the Earth cut of the 2nd disc that was previously available (so no B&W Mist, or extras disc for Compass).

I can pretty much guarantee 1.78:1 ratio (was 1.85 in theatres, little difference & eventual US release will be the same), DTS MA & no subs/extras.

damn, I want Blade 2 but if the US is going to get an eventual Trilogy box set at some point, maybe I should hold out.

Default SPECS! (Going by cover art only...)

Here are the specs for the discs being released today:
-Blade II: 1.78:1 (CORRECT RATIO!), 1080p, DTS MA, no subtitles or extras
-Blade Trinity: states 1.78:1 (wrong ratio) but has been confirmed as 2.35:1(CORRECT RATIO!) by forum member 'wormraper', 1080p, DTS MA, no subtitles or extras, 113-minute R-Rated version is listed
-Mimic: 1.78:1 (CORRECT RATIO!), 1080p, DTS MA, no subtitles or extras
-Hannibal Rising: 1.78:1 (WRONG RATIO!), 1080p, DTS MA, no subtitles or extras, 121-minute R-Rated version is listed

So, sounds like bad news for Hannibal Rising, since it is listed as 1.78:1 instead of their original 2.39:1 ratios. Maybe they just put the wrong ratio spec on the cover like they did for Trinity. Wormraper on another thread did say that Trinity was the proper ratio... Too bad they both don't have the unrated versions either, but this will all need an actual confirmation.

And also released in Canada today is the 2-disc version of Sin City (finally), with lenticular slipcover for about $20.

Future Shop & Best Buy only list the Alliance blus they know they can get adequate stock on. So they may get these "re-releases" in-store & then they may not... We still have no idea what their purpose is. It could even just be movie cash or something.

Best Buy put the discs out early. Just a new "line" of blus with a DVD & lenticular slipcover. See the OP here for more.

So then just to understand this right. The blade on blu-ray that is out now is not the good version it is the canadian version? Because it is sold on amazon.com not just on amazon.ca? I do not want to buy it if they are going to make a u.s. version that is "better"

Man I can't wait to get mine, though I cheaped out and combined my Amazon CA order with the $30 Dollhouse BD which was delayed a few weeks to save $10 in shipping

USA Blade 1-3 US/Canada

I will not wait for Warner/New Line for Blade to come out. I've been waiting for this series ever since HDDVD in April 2006. So forget waiting for Warner section here in the US to get these titles out. I ordered through Amazon.Ca and will recieve Blade 1-3 by 7 August 2009. and Movies being in there correct ratio is a joke it's nice but a joke. You go to a theatre and see the full picture you go home and zoom to get a full picture. I just want to see a HD PQ Studio copy of the movie and HD AQ lossless sound of Blade Series. And knowing how Warner loves to put up press releses of movies that will come out 3 to 8 months to BR and never give specs and then changes specs at the last minute not allowing alowing the public press release that there is a change in the Specs on the HD Movie I hope when it does come out the US it is not Dolby True HD Lossless sound. Watchmen was a suprise to me when it was DTS HDMA. Overall Warner has not been living up to the Pure sound department I have an ad from last year when Speedracer comming to BD and on the bottom of the Ad was A Dolby True HD. I think Warner only likes putting effort in movies that will make at least 125 million domestic. And already know that will have to repurchase Matrix series and batman series for DTS HDMA. All Companies need to release the movies in both HD losses AQ formats XXYV deep color PQ and it would be nice for THX certifications.

sigh, no we don't have to zoom in to get the "full" picture. The theater shows the movies in the proper aspect ratio too, they just use curtains and screens to hide where the "black bars" would be.

and TrueHD=PCM=DTS-HD MA all 3 are perfectly lossless. you just have to make sure and level match being that DTS loves to run their volume about 4 decibels higher than Dolby when recording, simple as that.

The black bars are hidden in the theaters. Black bars are normal, you are getting the full picture. On the contrary zooming causes loss of picture.

I pre-ordered Mimic cause I love me this film and del Torro.
Amazon didn't deliver though and now it is out of stock. I don't think they ever got any...but hopefully soon.

I received Blade II yesterday. PQ is pretty good and the AQ is awesome! I just don't like not having the scene selection option. This should be a standard for all BD's.
