+1...although a very quirky movie, it was an enjoyable spaghetti Western.

The Searchers, Lonesome Dove, The Wild Bunch, and The Good The Bad and The Ugly are my favorite westerns out of what's currently available. We definitely need some more classic John Wayne. I never cared for Rio Bravo, and The Cowboys is just so-so imo. I would also love to get my hands on The Outlaw Josey Wales and High Plains Drifter with Clint Eastwood.

Hey did anybody else watch Firefly and feel like they were watching a western? To me that series felt just like a western much of the time. Too bad it was cancelled. I really enjoyed it. Oddly enough, if you search titles here at Blu-ray.com, Firefly comes up under the Western category.

I own only one Western on Blu right now, but a few on DVD. I highly recommend the blu-ray of The Searchers. I've been meaning to get Good Bad and Ugly, but have been holding off since I bought the Leone set a little while back.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly doesn't look good on Blu-Ray. I would wait until a decent transfer is made (I know I am).

Second for Tombstone ! that would be awesome if they finally released an anamorphic copy with the extended scenes in it. (dts-hd would be nice too)
Also, The Magnificent Seven. Not sure if it is on bluray yet but it needs to be. This is a Western classic with an all star cast...no ones mentioned it yet..
Unforgiven as well of course. i heard they did a good job on the picture transfer..

Appaloosa is good. Here's hoping they do get around to making Resolution and Brimstone (maybe with a different actress for Allie).

I quickly search the thread but did not see anything.

Anyone as Pale Rider? Future Shop as it at $14 and I love this movie. I got it on DVD already and I am wondering what the BD is like.

Allie does not appear on Resolution (the book), although she's probableyon Brimstone. I'll get the book in the next couple of weeks and find out.

What makes a Western a Western. I sure there are different opinions out there. Movies like Unforgiven, Open Range, Lonesome Dove, Apaloosa, 3:10 To Yuma, Wyatt Earp, Tombstone, old John Wayne and Eastwood to me are Westerns. Good guys shootin' up Bad Guys, riding horses, inflicting justice etc.
Earlier someone listed Dances With Wolves. Now. I love this movie, but I consider it more of a Period movie about the Frontier and America-not a Western. I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any off thetop of my head.

Any thoughts?

She does. I just finished Brimstone, that's why I put the parenthesis after Brimstone.

The BD quality is pretty good, nothing to write home about but it definitely beats the SD DVD. It pops at times but some indoor scenes are shaky and luckily this is mainly comprised of outdoors scenes. At that price, I'd say go for it.

The best Western is Tombstone. But on Blu I like The Unforgiven, The Assasination of Jesse James, and I consider No Country For Old Men a western/drama how could it not be? Its just set in modern time thats all.

Default What are the best Westerns currently out on Blu-ray and Which ones are due out?

Best Westerns currently out on blu-ray, these are my favorites and all of them are quite good transfers , what are a few more good western blu-rays out there?
------
'3:10 to Yuma'
'Unforgiven'
'The Searchers'
'The Good The Bad and the Ugly'
The Quick And The Dead'

Which westerns need a good blu-ray transfer, I picked 2 below, name some more that would be nice with a BD transfer..
--------
my top 2 picks......>>
#1 by quite a bit..., 'Open Range' , the SD dvd's gunshot scenes are frequently used by home theater buffs to show off their nice home theater's audio system.

#2 'Dances with Wolves'
