Looks like a 70's BBC made for TV mini-series...

Would prefer the original artwork.

+ a million. Hey, remember in the movie when they were both backpacking through the streets of London? Oh yeah, me neither - cause it didn't happen!!

WTF, do they even know what happens in their own movies?

That cover is lame. Who thought it would be clever to Photoshop a wolf in the moon? Stupid!

The HD version wasn't reviewed well either.
I wonder if they bothered to do much to it for BD.

Probable just a HD-DVD port.

There is still hope. Universal's "The Wolfman" has had its released pushed back a couple of times. It is now slated for February 2010. Since the studios have been tightening up the time frame between official announcement and release, it is within the realm of possibilities that the Universal Monster films could be released on Blu-ray disc to support this release and vice versa.

The Image Quality they're reporting seems pretty consistant with the look the film has always had. Even back in the day I don't recall it looking really crisp. The DVD release of it from many years ago looked pretty bad also. I honestly doubt that the film is going to look much better than it already does.

Dissappointing. I thought in an interview Landis said that a new transfer was done for this release and that it looked great?

Doesn't sound like this is that transfer but the existing HD DVD one??
Or is it a new transfer?

It's a new transfer for the BD. And those screencaps of it look great -- nice amount of detail, and that wonderful grain. Landis made sure they did not DNR his movie when they prepped the Blu-ray.

[edit] Upon further inspection of the screens, maybe they did DNR it, but added a layer of artificial grain over it, like Lowry did with the Bond BDs. Hard to say.

Do they really do that? What's the point in removing grain only to put it back? Or are you joking?

Was going to buy this one...now I'm having second thoughts.

For a movie, now almost 30 years old, An American Werewolf in London looks pretty good in what I take to be a restored print. Grain is present, as it should be, but doesn't get in the way of detail. The image tends to be a little flat, coming to life when there are ample light sources off to the side. Flesh tones are convincing, textures are palpable without any wow factor. In short, much as a good print would have looked in the theater with a watchful projectionist way back when. I noticed no distracting blemishes, worrisome artifacts or the dreaded DNR. Fans of the movie should be very happy with this transfer.

It's definitely a new transfer, the one they showed at frightfest made the film look great. Of course the picture isn't going to be perfect, the film is older than me. Doh!

I think folks expect bluray to look crisp and sharp every time... which isn't how it's gonna be.

I should be getting mine in the mail on Tuesday. From the screen caps I see it looks like it's going to be a decent HD transfer for a film this old.
