Since Family Guy doesn't have an original bone in it's overbloated body, wait for it, they'll likely end up spoofing Lord of the Rings as well.

It's kinda funny, I see people on here bellyache and moan about remakes and sequels, yet almost doggedly love Family Guy which is nothing but ripoff material.

Star Wars #1
Indiana Jones #2
Lord of the Rings #3

The last 2 easily change ranks depending on what mood im in...

But Star Wars had the most influence on me and i dare say the rest of the world. There arent too many people out there that dont like it (or at least admit it) And it continues to influence movies and pop culture.
Indiana Jones is just great fun (im not counting 4 which was pretty lame) Harrison Ford just knows how to play it cool. Throw in Speilberg and Lucas and you got a pretty good recipe.
Lord of The Rings is the most consistent & best made. Growing up I read the Hobbit but never made it to the ring trilogy; Though i got plenty of stories from my older brother during D&D games..I know a lot of people (not film critics) who didnt care for it or thought it was too long.. (crazy people mostly)

Here are the best Trilogies in my mind. They are all equally good in their own right.

Star Wars OT
Bourne
LOTR

Other honorable mentions:
Mission Impossible
X-Men
Indiana Jones
POTC

I guess I could have put the horror ones but the generall consensus is that only a few are good within each respective franchise.
Errr Pirates is an actual Trilogy!

LOTR hands down for me.
Alien and Bourne trilogies are consistent also.

Star Wars was great....when I was 15, but Empire is definitely a classic. RotJedi was a real loser.

Lord of the Rings....for now.

I retain the right to change my vote if Nolan ever makes Batman Begins 3 and it is great

this thread seems to be more along the lines of what trilogy is your favorite, not which is the definitive one, that started the series of trilogies in Hollywood

Why would starting the series of trilogies in Hollywood make the trilogy definitive?

Star Wars, followed closely by Indiana Jones, then LOTR.

Although I have enjoyed many of the choices on the list (especially Star Wars), LOTR is in a class by itself.

Lord of the Rings as all three films combined could play as one long continuous movie and there are no time gaps between each film like most trilogies.

I would also like to submit votes for Alien, Die Hard, Scream and American Pie.

While Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies are fun and entertaining they are far from definitive and great and they have way to many inconsistencies.

Normally I would choose Star Wars but the Bond movies have just lasted so long and I love 99% of them.

I would say since this a Blu-ray site, the best one on Blu-ray is currently the Godfather Trilogy.
