I hope we get a Blu release of this in the US soon. Reading the Strange Days Blu-ray Review of the German edition makes me want it more.

I'm sure he bumped it because of the review that showed up on the main page today. I was so frickin' excited when I saw it only to have my heart ripped out when I was it was Region B only. Oh the injustice of it all! Okay, so I’m being a little overly dramatic. Nonetheless, it is so frustrating to know that there is a great blu transfer out there and not be able to watch it

That review makes me wonder. People have discussed that german blu-ray many times before and those high marks was not what was said then. I remember pretty average was the summary then and all started waiting for a better version. I haven't the disc myself but it makes me

Your right, I thought this was a review for a new improved edition that was just released, but it’s actually a review of the two-year old release.

Could you link me to these posts where it was summed up that the transfer is average?

Thanks.

Oh, man, I just looked to see if this thread even existed, and it's completely abandoned.

Doesn't feel like there's much interest in this film, and it's a pity, because it's a great movie, me thinks.

I'm sure it will be released at some point, and I'm hoping it will be sooner rather than later.

Has anyone heard anything recently?

I agree

I love this film, but it seems to be forgotten. I hoped it would reach BD when Bigelow and Hurt Locker won their Oscars, then I hoped Zero Dark Thirty and its success would bring it to disc.

No luck yet.

First of all, caveat - there is no new news on Strange Days (1995). I don't want to get anyone's hopes up.

I just wanted to bump this thread to express my strong interest in seeing this film released to Blu (if for no other reason than that it needs an anamorphic print). I first saw it back in the 200x's, and felt it was a great sci-fi flick that touched on several things I remember from the '90's, i.e. cyberpunk/virtual reality & the concern/nervousness about Y2K. Seeing it long after the film was set (late 1999) is interesting. I do think the story, set designs, and costumes are all amazing.

I'd totally get this on day one. It was always one of those movies that was shown at midnight on Cinemax just before they switched over to Skinimax, damn good.

Can't believe no release for this. On tv right now and IMO this movie holds up great and is just as good now.

Would grab this for sure, didn't even know it was a Kathryn Bigelow movie. Get er done! In fact, this movie might even work with a 3D treatment ala Top Gun or Predator. Lots of POV shots, might look cool.

Default Go get a region free blu ray player!!

The German 20th Anniversary blu ray looks outstanding compared to the ugly non-anamorphic standard DVD. Too bad its region B, but that makes me glad to have a region free player plus the disc only cost me 12 US dollars (it is bare bones). There is an earlier release that has special features but is well OOP and I cannot find. Would like to know if Koch Media used a new scan for this great transfer.

No new news here. It's a shame that Strange Days - one of my favorite '90's sci-fi films - is still not on Region 1 Blu. The DVD is not cheap these days, though I don't really want to buy this since the PQ could stand a lot of improvement....

Could always get a cheap region-free player. Not worth it just for this I guess, but you might find a lot of other locked movies you want.

Just watched this for only the second time ever. Liked as much as I did when I watched it in theaters. For those of you that have region free players, Kinowelt is a great release.
Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett was excellent in this. Easily the best of the 90's cyberpunk films.

No news - sorry for getting your hopes up.

I just watched this today for the first time in years and MAN did I forget how good this flick is. The cast is incredible: Ralph Fiennes looking the coolest he's ever looked, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, MICHAEL EFFING WINCOTT, Tom Sizemore...seriously, man. And the soundtrack is incredible. I owned the CD soundtrack for years and the songs themselves are fine, but they're used so damn well in the movie.

I would love a Region A bluray for this flick. I'd even settle for a digital copy on iTunes. Hell, anything that's at least anamorphic and a step up from the non-anamorphic DVD, I will buy it.

AMERICA'S BEEN MY BOOGIEMAN FOR FOUR HUNDRED YEARS.

I know this doesn't help everyone, but the German BD does play on Panasonic machines with the STOP, TOP MENU, TOP MENU trick.
