Well for me, I wanted a big screen tv but the prices in 2000-2001 were still outrageous 6k+ so I opted for an Epson projector 2k, 720p 1080i and it was great watching DVD, playing pc and ps2 games across a 12ft wall. However the 3,000 hour lamp life with projectors gets eaten up pretty quickly and $300 a pop every 2 years wasn't making sense to me.

Along comes November 2006 and 25 hrs in line for my PS3 because I wanted FFXIII and GT5 (both of which I'm still waiting for ) but now I needed 1080P - Luckily with time progression, the days of changing bulbs in rear projection tv's are gone as well and with the implementation of LED technology I finally purchased my 1080p set the summer of 2007 - dumped the projector and old 27" tv

Hence the transition to blu ray was much easier than letting go of VHS and transitioning to DVD

I first have dell with 17 inch widescreen lcd dell, 720p, 1080i in 2004. I knew I will adopt next media era, HD DVD and Blu-ray when it come. I wasn't early adopt in DVD era, but early adopt on the campus where i am only one with dvd player in 2000.

I got first hddvd in Sept 2006, and xbox360 add-on hddvd and i suffer from hard to read subtitle on 17 inch, and want big hdtv, instead we got a family 40 inch 1080i hdtv for living room downstair. have 1 hdmi.

I first get blu-ray in Jan 2007, as I planned back in 2003/2004. Got Ps3 in 2007, and play games and watch movies downstair.

PS3 come out in MAy 2007, and used it downstair with 40 inch hdtv.

Delcare Blu-ray choice in November 2007, some of you guys remember that. Please see my sigs, if you dont remember that. Removed HD DVD to zero in November 2007.

Got blu-ray player in laptop Acer in November 2007.
still not 1080p.

I want to have my own hdtv 1080p, i research and ask for graduate gift, a 2008 line of bravia sony 1080p 32 inch hdtv, big enough for my room.

Got it for my graduation, full HD, in my room. Now i can watch movie in my room. May 2008, my own full hd tv. PS3 moved to upstair.

in Fall 2008, new addition to family room, blu-ray standalone player.

So able watch movie upstair or downstair or on my laptop.

Soon will get home theater set blu-ray with wireless back surround. which is price at $799.99.

I have my old sound system sony, still good with DTS, in my room, about 6 year old system. Plan to upgrade it so I can watch movie more on blu-ray standalone and ps3 have a rest time for game and etc.

Nothing have make me upgrade, expect that 17 inch dell lcd hdtv make me want get big size of hdtv.

In future, when i have my own apt, expect to have big hdtv set. 40 inch +, 1080p. LCD. Sony bravia.

I am an early adopter! I am always first in line when new game consoles come out; same as I was one of the first people to get DVDs/HDTVs. Its just a natural progression for me so when HD DVD and BDs came out, I had to have it. Hopefully my tradition will continue with 3-D TVs and programming.

I wanted a larger screen for football, and every game was in HD (except some in pre-season). My 14-year old Sony CRT wasn't going to last forever.

I went Blu-ray (three weeks ago) when the price of players and movies got "reasonable", and certain concert DVDs were coming out in Blu-ray and I didn't want to double-dip on them (Kansas- There's Know Place Like Home and RUSH- R30).

The one thing that made me wary of Blu-ray is learning how to update the machine...I dread that

My next door neighbor had a Blu-Ray player and invited me over to check it out a couple years back. He played a few minutes of Crank for me and I was blown away by the gorgeous picture and thought to myself, "if Crank can look this good, just imagine what could be done with a good movie." Bought a player a month later.

Thumbs up

I bought the 80gb PS3 MGS4 bundle the day it came out. I played it on my old school big screen TV for a while. The picture wasn't that good and I couldn't make out a lot of the text. It felt like I was missing out on one of the major benefits of owning a next gen system so I decided I was gonna step it up to HD. I did some research and ended up buying my Vizio Plasma with my stimulus check a while back, thanks George Bush Jr!

simply keeping up on technology. And that is the disease of HD, it will compel you to spend more and more and more, and it never ends. Just as you buy the latest and greatest plasma, LCD, LED, or projector, a month later something better comes out. I guess it's like the automotive industry, except a ton more fun!!!....in my opinion.

Welcome to our addictive hobby. It's nice and warm inside, come grab and seat and share with us your name and addiction. The first step is realizing you have a problem. The second step is how to indulge in this hobby without losing everything, or even worse, having your spouse see how much money your investing in your new hobby. Tons of fun lies ahead kids, put your seat belts on.

I knew DVD was a transitional format as early as 1998. It's been a 10 year wait, but every DVD I bought, I knew it was a future drink coaster.

What did it for me was walking into the big box stores and seeing some amazing displays. I would tell myself, "You gotta get one of those"

Made the switch to HD a couple years back. I also got the PS3 the first year it was released and still love it.

Video games! Video games are my first love. When I purchased my 360 I thought to myself that it would be awesome to play this in HD. Then I got my ps3 and I thought 300 is an awesome movie Ill pick it up.

My CRT died two years ago so I bought an LCD, no sense getting more obsolete equipment. Once I saw how good HDTV looked, I replaced the 11 year old CRT in my bedroom and gave it away. My DVD player had problems playing some of my discs, especially from the BBC, so I got a BD player for the same reasons I got the first TV. I'm not an early adopter, I let other people spend the extra money and deal with the headaches.

My CRT was dying, so I decided to future-proof my next tv. It was about the time when all tv broadcasts were going to be in digital, so I needed a tv compatible with that technology. I had also heard of 720p and 1080p, so I thought I'd get 1080p and be ready for the end of the BD / HD DVD format war. Within a month of upgrading my TV, I had to upgrade my cable subscription to get the hi-def channels. Once Blu-ray won the war, I bought my first BD player.

For my situation, I came up on some cash and decided to splurge. Too bad I didn't fully understand the difference between 720p and 1080i/1080p at the time. Too bad I listened to bad advice from that Sears employee. Either way, I'm more than content with my current setup. I'm now considered a "high-definition snob" who looks down at others still rocking SD TV & DVDs. LOL. SD in my opinion is the equivalent of dial-up; it's not happening.
