I normally don't keep the DVDs only if they have some extra features their BD counterparts do not have (e.g. Pearl Harbor 4 disc DVD set containing the Director's Cut of the film and an incredible wealth of extras). On rare occasions I also keep them because they have exceptionally beautiful artwork (e.g. the Nikita SteelBook DVD).

I still keep my DVDs for the rare case that a friend wishes to watch a film at his house that he doesn't own. However, I did unsuccessfully try to sell the DVDs I bought the Blus of at a tag sale. But just because I keep them doesn't mean I don't want to be able to sell them.

I keep the DVD version so I can easily get them into my PSP or Zune when I want to watch a movie at work or on the go.

So far, our fledgling Blu-ray library only has six titles and two of those were new releases we hadn't bought on DVD. Of the remaining four:

Casino Royale - A true upgrade, as I bought the original 2-disc release as a Walmart exclusive with two decks of cards and a Casino Royale poker chip, and bought the 2-disc Collector's Edition Blu-ray. Because of the WM tangibles, I am currently keeping the DVD.

The Departed - Two-Disc Special Edition - has the TCM documentary Scorcese on Scorcese that wasn't ported over to the BD. Currently keeping.

The Dark Knight Two-Disc Special Edition - going to our nephew for Christmas (shh; don't tell him)

Wedding Crashers Uncorked Edition - will be traded in at Half Price Books next time I go

So, it appears that I, too, am going to keep DVD's that have something not present on the Blu-ray edition, at least initially. Really, this doesn't surprise me as I still have Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Tomorrow Never Dies and The Wizard of Oz VHS boxed sets because they were packaged with things like scripts and film cels, etc.

Default I had to keep The Fifth Element (2 disc superbit) and Gosford Park

cause the blu rays don't have special features.

But for the most part, I don't have room to keep both, so I give the dvds away or sell them. Double-dipping isn't something I do much of though, fortunately, cause the Oppo upconverts enough to keep me happy enough not to re-buy the blu. Whenever the heck the LotR movies come out, though, that will be a different story. Must see the extendeds in pristine blu.

I started out or should that be ended up, with a near 400 dvd collection when my wife got me a ps3 for christmas 2008 it came with batman begins, and she also got me transformers, identity and black hawk down.

I had a quick perusal but due to family and lack of time didnt really get to view any disc proper. The first chance i got i watched transformers (having also had the R1 steelbook dvd since its release) and while i wasnt quite convinced i decided to get the dvd and run it side by side on my pioneer upscaler and i was gobsmacked, firstly by how pristine the blu was, and then more importantly how terrible the dvd looked, i switched hdmi cables, i swapped panels, i put the dvd in the ps3, back to the pioneer, all awful compared to blu.

It was that day i decided that no matter what films i had, they were as useless to me as my old Enter the dragon widescreen spec edition vhs had become the day it was released on dvd.

I sold loads on ebay and have only kept the ones that i cant yet get on blu, even though ive never watched them since and nor would i, and also used a load as collateral in part ex's etc. Ive really only kept the ones i cant get on blu yet, and some of my wifes rom-com chick flick crap haha!

In 10 years i amassed around 400 dvd's, but ive got 75 blu's in a year, so its not going so bad!

By the time I got my first BD player (PS3 - last summer) I had well over a 1,000 films on dvd and that's before counting in tv boxsets! Needless to say it's not really financially viable to go and replace them all on Blu-ray right away, and quite a few are not yet available anyway. Saying that I already have 80+ BD's which is quite good going for the relatively short time I've had my PS3. Have given quite a few dvds away to family & friends, apart from dvds which have exclusive extras not ported to the BD. Have also kept "family friendly" films like my Pixar ones for when I have my own family one day so any little rugrat(s) can watch them on another tv if they don't have a HDTV. Now that's thinking ahead!

That's commitment!

I have around 30-40 left that I doubt I will ever buy on Blu-Ray so will be keeping them. I also still buy the majority of TV Shows on DVD as there are few shows that I actually want in HD, like Lost.

I'm with you when it comes to TV shows. I can quite happily live with watching them in standard def, and most don't seem to be made for HD anyway, but maybe that'll change. The only show I'd consider getting on BD - if ever released - would be Seinfeld - but only if it provides a substantial improvement on PQ, which I can't see being the case.
