Congrats to the Playstation!!
Same here, although I had a Japanese system before the US version came out. Ridge Racer and Toshinden were my first two games, and I thought the graphics were amazing at the time. I used to school people with Eiji. A few years later, a got a sketch of Eiji from the character designer (Tsukasa Kotobuki) at a convention.

Things I remember about the original PlayStation:

- Turning it upside-down if a game started to skip

- Using the disc swap trick to play import games on a US system. Keeping the lid open, you had to put in a US disc, cover the "door closed" sensor with something, let the disc spin for a few seconds, and then swap discs.

- Using the link cable to link two PS consoles together and playing two-player Destruction Derby, with each player having their own screen. (You also needed two TVs close to each other for this, so it was sort of a pain.)

- Using the multi-tap for 4-player Puyo Puyo.

- Lots of Twisted Metal 2 death matches.

- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, probably the best 2-D platformer ever.

I've happily owned all three Playstation consoles. I got my Playstation 1 for my 8th birthday. I can still remember going to pick it up with mom and dad. It was an awesome experience, because I had been asking for a playstation since they came out. I had a Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis, and I was tired of cartridge games and the lack of selection. I finally convinced mom and dad to buy me one, and I was so happy. It was the same for the Playstation 2. I was tired of not having any new games to play on my Playstation 1 so I asked for a Playstation 2 for my birthday. I ended up selling it, and getting an Xbox, after a while. I kept the Xbox for a long time, and I still miss it. Then I got another Playstation 2, and I used it and the Xbox for a while. Then the Xbox 360 came out, but I wasnt that interested in it. But when the Playstation 3 was announced I knew I had to upgrade.

I wanted one, but they were hard to get and expensive the christmas after they came out, and my parents couldn't afford it so I settled for an Xbox 360. I kept that for about a year then I sold it. I went without a game system for a while, but then the PS3 slim came out and I had to jump back in and I bought one, and I've been happy with it.

I am a Playstation gamer through and through.

damn, Shadow of the beast is the first thing that came to my mind, the revolutionary 3 levels of scrolling, out of this world graphics, insane difficulty ... brings memories of Shufflepuck cafe, Battle squadron, Battle chess, Archon ... (ow I feel my age)

on topic : I first saw Toshinden on PS1 playing in a shop and bought the console and game the same week

Oh man, what good memories.

I remember rummaging through my moms closet snooping for my xmas present and I found a copy of NFL Gameday 97, and I jumped around the room like a giddy little child knowing I was getting a playstation.

Waiting for the midnight launches of the PS2 and 3 are fond memories as well.

Battle Arena Toshinden and FF7 demo. Good times.

I remember for every door opened in Resident Evil, it went into first person enterting mode, and that freaked me out. Didn't know what would be on the other side. Scary stuff.

The memories of Playstation sure is great.
