I have to admit that the Spielberg version has become glossed over in my memory. I remember many scenes, but none of it had any emotional impact to me.

However, I just watched the DVD of the original again a few days ago, and despite the campiness, it was a great film. The pacing, effects, and the serious tone were all very effective. The latest DVD looks and sounds pretty good, too, and I kept thinking how great it could be on BD.

I'd kill to have this movie on bluray

I saw it twice in theatres and watch my DVD at least twice a year

As far as Speilberg films go this would be in my top 6 most wanted on Blu, along with the 3 indy's, Jurrassic park and ET

Or maybe I should have. A little inebriation might have made the film seem better.

I usually find Spielberg's films to be entertaining at the very least, but this is one of only two of his films that left me completely cold.

Seems like iTunes has quietly updated the digital version of this classic to 4k and Dolby Vision?!? Has anyone viewed it recently? I haven't purchased it yet, but this looks like an amazing remaster. It also looks like Paramount has "digitally tweaked" the film as well, by digitally removing the wires that once held up the Martian attack ships and from early reports it looks seamless. Interesting... I for one welcome the removal of the wires since they really killed the immersion of the alien ships when they went on the attack.

Shame that this classic isn't available anywhere else, as I don't have Apple TV 4K, and I would love to see the restored, 4K version of this!

This movie is always on the back of my mind every time I look at my blu-ray collection; wondering why it isn't on blu-ray yet. Cool that there it is available via iTunes, but, I hate the iTunes business model. I dont know why this movie wouldn't sell on physical media. There are plenty of similar sci-fi films from the 50`s that seemed to do well on blu-ray. Not sure how I feel about the wire removal though. Both options should be available.

Just watched a rip of this HDR10 4K x265 with surround, it looks amazing and my 4k TV verified the HDR process. iTunes has it available now. What's really interesting is they removed the wires holding the alien ships, they are no longer visible and a total restoration has been applied, the colors look amazing, I expect this will eventually be on Blu-ray maybe next year, looks great!

I purchased the UHD version of "The War Of The Worlds"-1953, off of VUDU...It looks great, by far the best I've ever seen it look. Prior to that, I own the collector's editon DVD which is now the 2nd best version you can view. The wires have been removed from the Martian ships in this version. I was actually stunned to see it offered on VUDU. Highly recommend.
