I'm thinking a warning tag might be in order for this thread since there seems to be quite a few spoilers. Nothing that has bothered me since I've seen all the movies that have been spoiled, but some might not have yet. Not just singling you out, Porkchop. Just happened to be the spoiler I picked to quote.

The author gets major points for making the right choice for No. 1. Man, that scene is... well... really good.

WOW. I just keep hearing about this scene everywhere! It looks like I am going to have to 'blind buy' this baby.

We are talking about the Pixar cartoon...right?

Yes. Best Pixar film to date, imo. I showed the montage to a lady friend of mine who is as unemotional as it gets, and she teared up.

Yeah, I didn't think Russ Meyer did Pixar cartoons, that was a weird rental!

Oyy, I hate years that have two similarly titled Oscar nominees--
Dates back to '02, when we tried to get people to watch "Spirited Away" because it was up for Best Animated, and nearly always heard "What, that horse movie? I remember that was awful!"

Wouldn't be the first time something got snuck onto a Disney movie release.

I'm glad the Taken scene is on there. As Ebert said, Neeson has the ability to add credibility to almost every movie he is in (even The Other Man, which was one of the worst films I've ever seen). This scene is just great. I agree with the write-up, which emphasizes the cool, collective way in which he says the lines. I think that's what makes it so good, and it really sets the mood for the rest of the film.

The Up montage is the best on the list. To refer to Ebert again, the montage is one of the most emotional scenes in recent movies and shows that even an animated film can convey intense emotions.

I thought Gran Torino was a pretty good film and the ending scene was good, but I don't think it's top 10 material. I also know there is a lot of hype regarding The Hangover montage, but to me, it just wasn't that funny (nor was the film). The most baffling inclusion to me was Rorschach's scene in Watchmen. I find the selection to be utterly confusing.

I have to agree with Czar that the airplane scene in Knowing should be on the list. While I did not like the film very much at all, that is one of the better action scenes I have ever seen. I think the subway scene is almost as good.

What do I think is the moment of the year, for the films I've seen thus far? The concluding scene of the documentary that will undoubtedly win the Oscar, The Cove.
[Show spoiler].

I'm referring to when he walks into the conference with the secretly filmed footage, being shown on a tv strapped to his body

It was one of the best movie moments I've seen in years.

+1 I watched that the other day and my jaw hit the floor at how emotional and dramatic that ending was! I was truly moved by that documentary

Number 1 movie moment of 2009 for me was

Avatar - "I see you" before the ending. That whole scene is just unforgettable to me.
