It's too bad they had to change the name from Avatar: The Last Airbender to just the Last Airbender because of Cameron's Avatar.

I have to politely disagree with you here regarding the director. I think Cameron has earned his goodwill. He was a very low budget director that turned out Terminator and Aliens (we shall pass over Pirahana 2). Once those were successful he was trusted with much larger budgeted projects. Terminator 2, The Abyss, True Lies, and the highest grossing movie of all time, Titanic. While you may or may not like any or all of these movies, I think it would be safe to buy a ticket based on his name alone. He also does not churn out movies for the sake of it, and while it could be bad, chances are it will be an entertaining science fiction flick.

i got tickets to a special screening of a couple of sections of the movie in IMAX 3d and it really looked incredible and the soundtrack was thunderous! the scenes that we saw were worth the time. it's gonna be something special. oh, and most other directors wouldn't have the juice to get a project like this off the ground other than a lucas or a speilberg, and either of them would have gotten this movie the same hype if they were doing it.
the blu people are a race of beings on a planet. we have cloned them and we lay in a chamber and send our consciousness into the cloned body to control it. the cloned blue people body becomes our "avatar" it's like a puppet.

wild concept but looks like a great movie for the holidays, i expect it will do well. it will draw people to IMAX & IMAX 3D. i will be there to see it of course.

I really like (most of) Cameron's movies, but so far nothing I'm seeing of this movie is really blowing me away yet. The CGI looks pretty good for the most part, but I don't know....I'm just not feeling it with this one.

No disrespect intended for those of you who are anxiously awaiting its release.

It was all because the stinking world wildlife fund wanted the website.

I saw a special screening of the Avatar footage in Austin where they added a few more scenes to what had already been shown.
While the CGI is insanely well done (THE best character animation so far) it's the design of the alien characters that completely pull me out of this world. Honestly that design is something I could find on deviantart.com but I think if he hadn't stuck with the blue skin color and made something more "real" I would be more acceptable to it.

How does blue make it less real? They're a fictional species, they could be tie-dye and it shouldn't make a difference.

I know they could but it does anyway. Why do you think people are screaming "smurfs!" when they see this?

funny, every swinging male (and I suspect a couple of female swingers too!) Loved that Green Slave Alien chick that Kirk was hitting on the original Star Trek, so why can't we learn to love a blue one!

Default Avatar BD wish list

When "Avatar" comes out on Blu, I sure hope it has LOTS and LOTS of special features (even cooler if they are shot in HD).
Do you all think it will have lots of features, given 20th C. Fox's "track record" for extra stuff?
Sound off!!

This is my dream BD for AVATAR:

--Commentary with James Cameron
--Commentary with James Cameron, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana
--2 hour Making-of feature (Goes through every aspect from script to post-production)
--PiP View of the Motion Capture Action side by side with the film.
--Breakdown of visual effects (could be included with PiP)

Maybe Fox can do something similar to WB's Maximum Movie Mode. That would be incredible, especially if it's a Cameron film.

What I hope

- Exteneded Edition (If there is one)
- Directors Commentary
- Directors and Actors Commentary
- PiP motion capture, storyboards, animatics vs Final movie
- 3 & 1/2 hour documentary on the movie
- deleted and unfinished scenes
- Misc EPKs and Trailers and other Promotional materials

With Collectors edition featuring special packaging and Hardcover "Pandorapedia" packed along with it.

As long as the movie looks and sounds great!

Extras are always a bonus imo but it would be nice to have a Cameron commentary

I just want it released promptly. Don't want to give them ideas to wait until Blu-ray 3D is available . They can double dip later on if they want.

I wouldn't be surprised if the blu came with very little special features only to have them come out with a complete disc with all the features and 3-D...although I do hope it is packed with extras maybe even span 2 discs worth. That would be great

This is a movie I'll be watching in IMAX, and a day 1 purchase on BD.
