Are we 100% positive the Criterion is not going out of print? Don't Look Now is also in this Paramount wave, and (IIRC) has been "Currently Unavailable" on their website for some time, as well as unavailable on Amazon.

The Blu-ray of Days of Heaven is also "Currently Unavailable" on Criterion, but this might just be because of the flash sale.

There's no way to be 100% positive, but Criterion has always been good, in the past, about saying "Out Of Print" when a title is truly gone.

That said, due to the pandemic, production has clearly slowed down on old titles. There are a number that have been "Currently Unavailable" for a while, like King of the Hill. In that case however, they have to redesign the case to make it a BD, the one they ran out of last year was the original DVD/BD combo. This should be easier to restock. But still, anything is possible.

I would also wonder if it matters that now Kino has The Underneath.

But that's a good explanation.

I doubt that matters. I don't think Criterion's licenses are always or even usually exclusive, it's just that other labels rarely bother to issue discs of titles Criterion has already done.

Both Don't Look Now and Days of Heaven have updated on Criterion to say "Out of Print."

"La Dolce Vita", "Harold and Maude", "Nashville", and "Rosemary's Baby" are the other Paramount-Criterons that have gone OOP.

How does this bode for the Fellini set, I wonder?

I would assume Paramount probably allowed it to be a box set/multi-film "exclusive" for the Fellini set and have Criterion make the stand alone go OOP.

Sad to see these all go, I was hoping there was a happier explanation, but I guess the worst came true.

Amazon says they have three copies left. Barnes & Noble still seems to have some for online and it seems a good number of store locations still have it in stock. How long it last, who knows though. Will it last to the next 1/2 off? If it does, I imagine it might sell out quickly the second that starts.

A sad day for the end of some great titles on Criterion. Fingers crossed one day that Paramount and Criterion can negotiate a new contract/license for these titles.

* and also that "Days of Heaven" can get the proper aspect ratio.

Unlikely, 1.85:1 Paramount titles are almost always presented in 1.78:1 on DVD and Blu-ray.

Someone asked who's gonna buy the new BD of Days of Heaven when it's already available on Criterion. Well, I will in a heartbeat if the Paramount disc is region free. A-locked Criterion is the only BD release of this film so far.

After looking over the features, I think I'll just wait and get the Paramount when it drops around $10. Maybe it'll have a better encode.

FYI for anyone who's concerned about more Paramount titles potentially going OOP, here's a list of the ones licensed by them to Criterion: https://criterionforum.org/Search/Licensor/77/1 Might want to get them while you still can, just in case

Well since it's looking like Criterion is never jumping on the 4K UHD bandwagon maybe this means Paramount might be putting out their own 4K UHD of this film. That would be amazing.
