Yes that is great news I will post if here also for others to read.

Richard Donner’s “Nightmare” at MGM
In Directors, Twilight Zone on March 22, 2010 at 9:30 am

Just finished doing the audio commentaries for THE TWILIGHT ZONE — fifty-two episodes, one third of the entire series!

One of the highlights (and there were many) was the commentary I recorded last week with Richard Donner, who directed “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” (as well as the LETHAL WEAPON movies, the Christopher Reeve SUPERMAN, and Bruce Willis’ 16 BLOCKS). Richard Matheson wrote the episode, which starred a pre-STAR TREK William Shatner as a man who spies a gremlin sabotaging the engine of the passenger plane he’s flying on.

The entire episode was shot on an actual full-size airplane suspended over a tank on a soundstage. There were no wild walls, nothing – just amazing practical effects with rain, smoke standing in for clouds, lightning, wind. Amazing. It was shot in just two (very long) days, because on day two of what was supposed to be a three-day shoot Donner was told by the producer that a feature at Metro needed it for the next day, so Donner just kept shooting till dawn.

What an honor to be able to share these memories with Richard Donner, who’s still sharp as a tack, charming and very funny.

And now it’s on to the next adventure…

All good thoughts your way,
Marc

This is what’s so amazing about bluray. These episodes were shot on film, but only shown on standard-def television. If they’ve remastered these blus from the original film elements, TWILIGHT ZONE will literally look better than anyone has ever seen it – ever.

This is fantastic news.

The Twilight Zone at its best is better than most other TV shows. The only bad thing about this blu-ray release is it'll make me want to replace the DVDs I have.

I am pumped about this. My family loves sitting around and watching old Twilight Zone flicks.

Having this one Blue? man..............I've been waiting for this day....I kept seeing the sales on Amazon for the DVDs and had to fight myself against buying them.

Glad I waited.

My only concern is price. The DVD versions were extremely overpriced, in my opinion. I might consider a complete series package for $130-$150. It will be nice getting one of the best shows on television, however.

I bought the complete set on DVD last year for $95. Even though it's one of my favorite shows ever, I'll be waiting for a significant price drop before I upgrade.

EDIT: I just realized that it doesn't specify whether it's the original series, the 1980's version, or the UPN version.
Is it every episode, if so, then that is a fair price. If it's only certain episodes, then that would be stupid. I would buy it. It's like buying a ps3 game only 10 dollars more.

Usually you can find the complete series DVD set on sale sometimes around $100.00-$150.00 depending. However I really don't like the complete set packaging.

I purchased all of my season sets seperatly. And yes they were pricey. That being said, I will be doing a day one purchase for Season one on Blu. Image did a remarkable job on the transfers for the definitive season sets. The extra alone were above and beyond what most could have imagined for the series. The fact you get so many various classic scores isolated oon specific episodes was a big plus for film score hounds like myself.

I really hope the packaging for each season set on Blu is really nice.

But they forgot just one little key element in the set. One little button called "play all" so you have to restart after every episode.

Hopefully some of the commentaries will be longer than were on the DVD sets:
Some, like Leonard Nimoy for "A Quality of Mercy", were only five minutes long to begin with--
While Don Rickles for "Mr. Dingle the Strong" starts out fine, and the minute the aliens walk in, "Okay, that's it, stop the commentary, I'm not talking about Martians..."

I guess this thread is more about the TV episodes; however, I bought the Twilight Zone movie for $10.99 at Best Buy last night.

An online buddy directed me over here since he realized i've been waiting for the original Twilight Zone to come out on Blu-Ray. It's been awhile but can someone tell me how many seasons the show lasted?

I'm really tempted to get the first season but am wondering if I should just hold out if they release a complete series set like they did on DVD.

It ran 5 Seasons.

I would guess it will be years before a complete BLU set would be released. Not sure at what speed they will release Twilight Zone on blu but something tells me not to expect more than 2 Seasons a Year. I hope it goes faster, but you never know.

Although six of the episodes were shot on video tape and there is nothing you can do about that...

Incidentally, the six videotaped episodes from season 2 were:

*"The Lateness of the Hour"
*"Static"
*"The Whole Truth"
*"The Night of the Meek"
*"Twenty Two"
*"Long Distance Call"

Nope. 6 episodes in season 2 (listed above) were shot on video and transferred to film for broadcast; all remaining episodes were shot on film.

I'm all over these. My favorite show of all-time. I didn't even think they would add even more bonus features than what was on the Definitive Collection DVDs but it appears as though they are doing just that.

I can't believe I'm finally going to get to see & own The Time Element (the lost pilot) with a commentary by Zicree. This is insanely awesome!

Wasn't the "pilot", the sales pilot was still "Where Is Everybody?"--

Element was the isolated proto-Serling story for Desi Arnaz's show, right?...They didn't even put that on the boxset?
