Well, I would have said THE ROCK, but Disney released an awesome Blu-Ray of it with all the Criterion features on there. Same for LIFE OF BRIAN, with Sony getting the majority of all the Criterion features on there as well as a brand new retrospective doc.

These are the Criterion titles I have in my collection.

BICYCLE THIEVES
BRAZIL
CHASING AMY
DAYS OF HEAVEN
F FOR FAKE
FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS
THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST
NIGHT ON EARTH
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS
STRANGER THAN PARADISE
THE THIRD MAN

They're pretty awesome DVD's as they are already, so I'm not itching to see them on Blu-Ray anytime soon. But if the Universal titles (Brazil, Fear and Loathing, Last Temptation), Days of Heaven and the two Disney titles (Chasing Amy with the 10th anniversary Q&A and The Royal Tenenbaums) could get Blu-Ray edition with ALL the Criterion extras on there, that would be great)

I was thinking Last Temptation too; that's still one of the ones that really surprised/fascinated me (having not seen the film before watching the Criterion DVD.). Many others that don't come immediately to mind, aside from the obvious. Berlin Alexanderplatz too.

What a difficult question to answer. Certainly the Bergman films, maybe Rififi, some Kurosawa (Ikiru, High and Low et al). I'd just be happy to see them start releasing on the format. They will have a LOT of catching up to do.

Oh yeah...Kwaidan!

Not to sound pissy, but why do ppl keep bringing up The Rock? If these ppl bothered to read the reviews, they'd know that the recent BD release carries over almost all the extras from the 2 disc Criterion release (they're even honoring p.o.p. tags from that release for their $10 rebate deal).

The Masters of Cinema release of Kwaidan is one of the prime reasons for my preference for the British outfit.

Really, I wouldn't want to see the Criterion master of Kwaidan on Blu-ray, ever.

But I'm still hopeful they'll learn from their past mistakes and do their Blu-rays properly from day one. At least they're better than Kino, the prime purveyor of silent cinema Stateside -- now those guys get it wrong more often than not.

Still, the value of a Criterion is as much in the extras package as in the transfer quality -- which is why it's great that Disney and Sony offered the Criterion extras on the releases mentioned above, and why it's truly necessary to get Criterion into the high-def fold properly, and soon.

The Criterion Collection version of Robocop is one of the few standard definition DVDs I intend to keep. However, IMHO, Robocop has never really been given a top quality transfer and treatment on home video. I'd like to see that change for a new, better version on Blu-ray.

I don't think that we can get a better version than the newly released one.
Heard that the master tapes are not that great as well, either just not shot with high quality film or too old... who knows.
