I had a feeling this would be the case, though I absolutely loved Charade. Grant and Hepburn play so well off each other. Very underrated, in my opinion.
I think Notorious is the far better film. NxNW is good, breezy entertainment, but it's lightweight Hitchcock, like To Catch A Thief. I always preferred his darker films, like Notorious, Psycho, Vertigo...even Rear Window, while breezy, has an air of seriousness.

My favorite Cary Grant film, though, is Only Angels Have Wings.

Maybe it's just late and I'm confused, but why would you rank Notorious below NxNW, then, if you think it's the superior film?

Is it worth picking up? Never seen it, love Mr. Grant, and it's only $11.99. What do you guys think? Anyone want to give their two cents on Notorious?

MGM's transfer for Notorious isn't terrific at all, but it's serviceable and should not hinder you from purchase.

As for the film, it is rightly considered to be one of Hitchcock's first-order masterpieces, with Psycho, Rear Window and such. It's probably the best film in the middle portion of his career, after his British period but before his big 50's/'Technicolor' period that kickstarted with Dial M For Murder.

North by Northwest is the quintessential Hitch film. Yes it's 'light', but the flawlessness of its execution; the fact that it's just so funny, with the best of Hitchcock's brand of humor; the fabulous photography; that fantastic, bombastic score from Hermann; and just a terrific 'Hitchcock' blonde in Eva Marie Saint places it at the top of Hitchcock's numerous masterpieces for me. It is a first among equals, if you will.

Cary Grant can do no wrong. My favorites: (not in order)

Notorious (have on BD)
North By Northwest (have on BD)
Suspicion
Penny Serenade
That Touch of Mink
Father Goose

I'd like to see all of these movies on BD.

Olive seem to own the rights to quite a few, including OPERATION PETTICOAT, THAT TOUCH OF MINK, INDISCREET and FATHER GOOSE. Hopefully we'll see some before the end of the year, given the rate they're tearing through the releases. I'm sure Cary sells well at Christmas.

Note the previously released North By Northwest (Warner Borthers) is being included in Universal's Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection. Also includes the previously released Psycho. Thirteen others that were not previously released on Blu-ray including The Man Who Knew to Much, Vertigo, and Real Window.

Sorry no new Cary Grant in the set.

I'd like to see these films sooner rather then later. Especially the first 4.

Arsenic and Old Lace
His Girl Friday
The Awful Truth
The Philadelphia Story
Suspicion
Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House
The Talk of the Town
Bringing up Baby

Operation Petticoat and Father Goose are also wonderful movies. Tony Curtis is hilarious in petticoat. Hopefully we will get a boxset.

Another Cary Grant film released May 28 - The Grass is Greener!

AMAZON links:
Father Goose: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C3ALM52

The Grass is Greener: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C3ALLUS

For my money, I hop Walk Don't Run and Operation Petticoat are up soon. After that, I would love to see Gunga Din and Mr Blandings get Blu-Ray releases

Is Father Goose worth a Blind Buy?? I haven't seen it yet I prefer Grant's Comedy Roles above the Dramas.

Favorites are:

His Girl Friday, Holiday, Bringing Up Baby, Talk of the Town

If you prefer the lighter side of Cary Grant, then Father Goose should be near the top of your list. Certainly one of my favorites, and I'm really looking forward to the Olive release next month.

Let's not forget MONKEY BUSINESS, a very neglected classic that pairs Grant with Marilyn Monroe. For me, it's one of the great screwball comedies.

Thanks for the recommendation, I just searched my local library database they appear to have it on DVD... Olive Films Blu-ray are a little expensive for a blind buy.

Do they ever go on sale is it worth price tracking??

I want Bringing up Baby. Caught it on PBS a few months back and instantly fell in love. Grant and Hepburn play off each other so perfectly.

Absolutely! The script by Peter Stone won an Oscar, which is rare for a comedy. It was intended as a reunion of Grant, Audrey Hepburn and Stone from the previous year's Charade, but Hepburn chose not to make the film. Leslie Caron is still great though in the role meant for Hepburn.
