I know how you feel. For the past like 6 years the same people have been coming over to my house every Friday night to watch movies. I'm the one that buys all the movies (well, now my girlfriend too) and it's all my equipment. But at least I get to say "this is mine, if you touch even the remote I will cut off your fingers and throw them out the window." Plus I get to pick what we watch so I've got that goin for me. But seriously, if I were you, I'd get the sound system. I picture it this way, it's mine. I get to say yes or no to who ever wants to use it (I don't think I've ever actually said yes). But when no one else is here, I still get to enjoy my movies in surround sound. To me, you need the sound to match the picture. If the picture is impressive, the sound has to be equally impressive. It goes both ways, I wouldn't want a 7.1 THX Certified surround sound system for a 13" B&W TV.

Sorry, I don't understand why a college student who can afford a Lexus and 5 grand in an incomplete home theatre setup would have roommates in the first place.

… Ok, ok, I see your point, you are right, thanks for the support. I was going to get Klipsch speakers, however you recommend Yamaha for the receiver, and I was going to get the Sony STR-DA5300ES. How is Sony’s receiver, because I love Sony’s products? Thanks.

My apartment has four bedrooms, I live in one of them, and the other 3 were unoccupied, therefore I had to find 3 new roommates. I only got this apartment because of the location, and next school year I will replace them with my brother, cousin, and best friend.

I've never actually used a Sony reciever before, but do you really need all that stuff? I would look for a cheaper one that has HDMI (and accepts 7.1) and can decode the future audio formats (unless your player already decodes them in which case you're set). I'd check denon, I think you can get one that'll decode the new audio codecs for like $500 and it has their speaker set up system (Where you put a mic in the hot spot and it'll allign all your speakers for you, I think they have the best program for that along with Yamaha).

Thanks, well I only need a player which can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio, and I am all set. Yeah, you are right I do not need a Sony’s receiver; I only said it because I love Sony’s products.

Thanks, no problem.

I wish I had your setup in college, I wasl driving around in a $3000 used 86 Nissan Sentra, usually sharing a run down house with 2 friends that cost $300 per month ($67 a month rent) and I usually slept on a couch or floor. The TV in the living room was belonged to the roommate that had the best set which would be a 19" color TV. But I was still the envy of my friends with a NAD power/preamp and Boston Accoustic speakers which probably ran $1000 total. But overall, it was good times. I graduated back in 1992.

Now I am quite happy with my system with a couple of things still to add which I plan to do after I move. I need to upgrade the surrounds to match my front and centers and still need my blu-ray player....
