Well, that depends. If the plan is to release 40GB to US exclusively, then SCEA will probably make the announcement. If it is international, then SCEJ /SCEI

What about turkey bacon (yes they do make it)? Although I would much prefer pork bacon. But I am hoping for the smoothie option. Then I could use that to make dackerys.

yes off topic and maybe you can PM me because I'm truly curious. But why chicken and no beef? Unless of course your Hindu then that would make sense.

Anyway, not knocking it all, I've just always been curious.

Back to topic.....sorry guys.

I'm hoping the announcement is a cheaper Blu-Ray player AND PS3.

the reason is because a LOT of people still don't realize the PS3 and all it can do, but you put out a $299 blu ray player and people start to buy those.

any lower and it appears cheap to me.

I read on the main page of that website that Blu Ray is out selling HD DVD 4:1. I have not heard much about the war in Europe, but this is great news. I was not really surprised though.

While im pretty certain its the $400 40 gig, and that in itself is great news, I really hope its something more. I have to agree with other posters, sure its great that a price drop will bring in many more PS3 sales, but those of us that have purchased one already need something too.

Im hoping its the 2.0 firmware update and/or some HOME action

I think any of these major suggestions would be good. Personally I'd like to see the $399 PS3 plus new firmware upgrading it to Profile 2.0. I'm not sure they'd make so big a deal if all it is is a price drop on the S300... which would still be good news of course!

It could be a combo announcement of price drops, release of new PS3 model and a possible firmware update enabling DTS-HD MA bit stream support. Now THAT would make any Blu-ray fan's day.

If something like that happens, I might even go out and buy me one at last.

This is an exciting time a $400 PS3, and the increased Blu-ray player awareness campaign for the PS3 are going to be HUGE in Q4.

I do hope it is the 40gig for $399. Gives me a reason to pick another one up
so I don't have to carry mine back and forth between my tv's

Another possibility could be that they're announcing GTA:IV for release sometime this year maybe. I know this isn't a giant deal on this site, but an announcement like this would be HUGE in the gaming world. Especially since the Xbox version isn't coming out until sometime next year.

The UK playstation site has updated their release date of this title for October 2007. That's THIS month!! Although it could be an error, it could also be true.

This doesn't have a large effect on Blu-Ray supporters but GTA:IV is one of the most highly anticipated games for any platform out there right now. This would generate a lot of PS3 sales, especially if the rumored $399 PS3 is true as well.

id bet the announcement is
1. 80gb price reduction in Nov to 499
2. 40gb @ 399 intro being released as a bundle with spidey 3 and/or rachet on oct 30.

yea i stole that speculation from that website but it just seems so likely.

Personally I'm excited that Sony is doing something, but! I don't think that a $399 ps3 is all that exciting. They need to get lower. $299 or $350 would be devastating for the 360. For a base model, $399 is just not very competative this season when there are $279 Xbox's out there. I work at a school and the kids aren't very excited about the PS3. They all say the same thing. The PS3 is more expensive and doesn't have any good exclusives. In other words that 360 will do everything the PS3 will do, plus it has Halo 3, Gears of War, on and on. Now don't get me wrong, I know it's a great deal, heck I bought the 60gig for $599. Most people though are looking at the PS3's ability to bring on great gaming entertainment. It's time for Sony to get serious about getting their consoles into peoples homes. More PS3's into the home means Blu-Ray wins the war. Come on Sony drop that price lower!

Oh Yeah...Woot! 100 posts

Ya Sony knows this for sure. I think this is a great idea, this will help bring a lot more consoles into homes just in time for christmas. They planned the price drop for the perfect time when demand will be the highest. They know that bringing games to the PS3 is important, but to do that, they need to get systems into people's homes so that developers are inclined to make games for it. It's kind of a give and take sort of thing. At least Sony's going the right direction.

As for the cheap Xbox console, yes there is one out there but most people go for buying the more expensive Elite unit just because they don't want to go cheap especially when buying things like this. That means that the prices are very close so I'm not sure this is a big deal anymore. As soon as the PS3 gets some of the big named titles coming out things are going to take off. At least I hope so.

Congratulations on 100 posts by the way!

I really hope either price cut and 40GB or Firmware 2.0 to support profile 1.1

Anyway, why we're talking about food?
