I really hope this movie is good. It may be the first comedy I go see in the theaters...

(check the old news) When he was back available, he was replaced by Carrell and Carrey came back himself because he wanted the other part and thought it was more interesting to do. Just mentioning it because of all the "he had to take 2nd place?"-talk out there. :°)
Of course, he does! He,he

Thanks for the info.

From the trailer, it looks a bit too much on the wacky humor side for me. I'm not remotely a fan of Carrey in rolls like Ace Ventura (but, surprisingly, loved his performance in 'The Mask').

However, I'll probably talk myself into seeing this because I'm a magician. I've been doing magic since I was 7 years old. I've been to many of the Vegas magic shows over the years, including Siegfried and Roy (the pair that Carrell's and Buscemi's characters are clearly parodying).

I am not a Carrey fan at all but the trailer looked funny and I laughed at the JC parts.

I'll buy it.

It also is making fun of magicians in subtle ways (they are a specific breed) that I find funny.

Just recently saw the trailer for the first time myself. Not really sure what to make of the movie. It looks like it could really funny in that wacky sort of way.

Looks like a parody of "The Prestige". Interested to see what kind of reviews this one gets.

I am one of those people who finds magicians incredibly boring\lame. People who are terrified of clowns? Their terror's got nothing on my boredom levels when a magician begins to "entertain" with his\her "skills".

I know they're all just tricks, some more elaborate than others. My personal opinion is that they are all just a generation or two or three removed from their pick-pocket, 3-card-Monte-dealing con artist "street magician"origins. Magicians are just flash crap, based on either mechanical manipulation or simple sleight-of-hand, for the most part.

I will see this on cable, though.

There are things in these clips that show us the trailers aren't half as good as the actual movie, I think. It looks much funnier. Like someone said on IMDB (early screening):

Quote:
Saw the movie almost a year ago at a private screening. Can't say much about it but will say that the trailer showed no justice to the movie. There also are some scenes that might be a bit too strong for kids, hilarious scene's no doubt. No nudity but there are some adult jokes. While Steve Carell is the main character, there are a lot of supporting characters that stick around for more than half the movie, most notably Steve Buscemi (which is also a funny character).

Jim Carrey will catch people by surprise by going back to his old style. Loved him here, Carrey did a great job. If you're a fan of Ace Ventura, the Cable Guy, and of course Dumb and Dumber, you're gonna enjoy him here a lot! Olivia Wilde also did a great job in her role. And of course Alan Arkin, another great strong character.

Great movie and dont worry about the trailer, it spoiled almost nothing and showed almost nothing of the movie. Glad in a way they are keeping the big scene's close.
Makes me hopefull. I'm in.

Hopefully that person's right and the movie is better than the trailer. I've always hoped this would turn out to be good based on the cast alone, but I wasn't impressed at all by the trailer or the commercials.

Was browsing the BBFC site and came across this. Somehow, I feel WB UK sharpening their digital scissors:

I get that Jim Carrey is the bigger draw, but it does bother me that the commercials have been downplaying Steve Buschemi's role in the movie. Isn't he suppose to be the second lead?

Pretty mediocre reviews, I'm checking it out tomorrow at a free screening, so you'll get my judgement on it then

I saw it tonight and I thought it was pretty good. If i had to rate it, i would rate it around 7.5/10

While not gut busting funny, it IS always entertaining. Jim Carrey is pretty damn good here.
