Just finished watching this and I noticed about half a dozen times the sound dropped for the briefest second, this was mainly when the sound got louder and in the final third or quarter of the movie. I Never noticed this with any other movies including brave, I only have a 5.1 setup so don't know if this makes difference or not.

Not just you. It dropped out for me when bitstreaming but not when letting the player do the decoding. But even when the player was decoding, I did notice a few pops in the audio track. I don't know what it is, but it seems to be something that I've been experiencing with the latest Dolby TrueHD tracks.

Having the same issue right now. Everytime a loud scene starts the sound drops off for a brief second.

This is not a unique or new issue. As already mentioned, it is often better to just send LPCM from your bluray player to your receiver to avoid potential handshake issues.

Well it IS a unique issue for me in that this is the first disc where it happens on BOTH the 7.1 and 5.1 tracks!!! I've had it happen before on BRAVE with the 7.1 but the 5.1 was clean. Now this is only the second disc to do it in my collection of nearly 150 blu-rays. Both are from Disney. And now I can't even play a clean 5.1 track off it.

So something is wrong ! It does it on BOTH the 3D disc and the 2D disc!!!

Unacceptable and it's getting returned. At the price Disney is charging for their discs, they need to step it up and see that this doesnt happen.

I'm guessing the bit rate is too high for the combined video and audio stream. Whenever it gets loud and the audio bit rate goes up, it drops out.

Too bad as the family really wanted this disc, but I'm not keeping a disc I now have to play in Dolby 2.0 to hear properly!

That's what I noticed, although I will probably just live with it unless Disney do a replacement disc.

Does switching to LPCM solve the issue or do you still have drop outs? If switching solves the issue, then nothing is wrong with the disc. If it does not solve the issue, then perhaps you do have a faulty disc.

How old is your receiver? What bluray player are you using? Majority of times, one of the components is the culprit for audio drop outs. Even brand new discs sometimes have compatability issues. Oppo often corrects compatability issues with known disc issues via firmware updates.

It definitely stinks that it happens with both Brave and Monsters U... But if you had 600 blus, it would not be far fetched to say you would have handshake issues with a couple more as well.

I always let the receiver do the decoding instead of the blu-ray player. I switched it up (let the blu-ray player decode) and still the same results. I have not tried to watch this without using the receiver. I have a sony receiver and sony blu-ray player, purchased both within the last two years. This is the first movie I have encountered this issue.

I am using separate dedicated HDMI outputs for video and audio and did not experience any audio dropouts.

I'll try playing it with my old PS3 and see if I notice any dropouts while sending both video and audio through one HDMI cable. There has to be a reason for so many experiencing the same issue, hopefully someone can figure it out.

Turbo 3D is next up, from Dreamworks. Disney's Monsters University reminds me too much of school, so I passed for now.
I watched 50% of it yesterday.

The 3D is finally getting some serious attention from Pixar. I would bet that this was done by some one in Disney who knows the power of good 3D (like Tangled had) and not someone in PIxart itself.

May be we are spoiled by great CG, I did not feel Pixar magic in this oe in terms of visuals.

I was unable to re-create this experience on either disk 2d or 3d. I'm using a pioneer bluray and onkyo receiver, and I let my receiver do the processing not the player.

There's a lot of talk about the drop out issue on the Blu-ray movies thread also. Next time I watch it I will try it in my PS3 and see if I get the same issues, but that won't be any time soon.

Audio dropouts with my Oppo-95 and Pioneer 3d receiver. Ended up switching to PCM in the Oppo and no issues the entire movie.

This has to be one of the strongest 3D presentations from Pixar/Disney Animation. Excellent depth and use of the 3D space in nearly every scene. If there’s a better 3D presentation from Pixar/Disney Animation I’d love to know about it because this one seems to stand apart from the rest.

Bought this recently.

Really good 3D here, medium throughout. Depth & separation is good and always apparent. While there isn’t much in the form of pop-outs, (except the final Scare Games challenge, where the roars of each contestant pops out of the screen), the 3D always takes advantage of the foreground to offer a layered and immersive presentation.

Monsters University has probably the best 3D Pixar had to offer before they went for more stronger 3D for Elemental onwards.

Of course Monsters University doesn't hold a candle to the original Monsters Inc, it's an excellent prequel with a great message that often gets overlooked.

Monsters, Inc also has one of the best if not the best 3D lenticular slipcover.
