No. I think one or more in charge have been frustrated for a while with what has gone on there, but it is not as simple a problem as some people seem to think to try to be neutral. Some rules were put in place to avoid bashing by insiders, but some people are very slick and have a lot of energy to deceive others, and it isn't just insiders. I can tell you that the accusations from here about people at the top of AVS being for HD DVD and against Blu-ray are just as much BS as what certain HD DVD fans post. Some particular mods may have personal preferences like that, but the accusations against those at the top are just plain wrong.

I haven't really posted over there much in the last 2-3 weeks after being one of the more prolific posters (and I know I do quite a few long posts). I logged in last week just to guess for the Nielsen numbers and was going to log in tomorrow to guess for this week (I just PMed 67:33 as my guess instead). I also haven't read much there, but figured there were probably some continuing to try to deceive people with tricks like using worldwide for hardware and US or NA for software (so they can push that 10:1 hardware advantage, but only 2:1 software BS), and they may have thought of some new tricks to deceive with since then. I was sure long ago that Amir had worn a lot of people down with his persistence at misleading people, but I don't know if he has been posting less since his job change or if he is posting just as much (and whether they still let him play the insider) or more.

Anyway, I would ask the people here to think about one thing. Imagine you had a forum where there are people on both sides trying to deceive and you are trying to stay neutral, which is definitely going to upset extremists on both sides. What would you do if the site was supposed to be neutral (not like a blu-ray.com, which has the way it is supposed to lean in the name)? And please don't tell me something like that you would favor the "better" format, where "better" would be how you define it. I have my preference as things stand (Blu-ray), but I also understand that there are reasons that others choose HD DVD and running a site that is supposed to be neutral with all the people with little integrity or intelligence trying to deceive (from both sides), would be a very difficult thing to do.

I never thought I'd have to put someone on ignore here on blu-ray.com.

The Shrike, I think you need to take a chill pill and try to think how a content producer might feel being attacked by fanboys running a supposed neutral site like AVS when they were trying to explain how they created their film and why they made the creative and technical choices present in the final product.

I'm not talking about fanboys attacking each other or even format insiders but rather a content industry insider intimately involved with the production of titles being lied about in a forum.

This format war is making some people lose their perspective and forget about the people involved in creating the movies we love.

maybe bd sponsor also leaving after seeing their pro hd-dvd stance, so have to shut it down until they manage to woo them back.

Well it shows a failure in moderation duty... or perhaps their site was attacked.

I do know this "format war" tends to bring out some pretty strong emotions and the worst in many people. I hate to admit it, but lately the AVSForum is like a train wreck that you can't help but look at. When I first started there in 2000, all sections of it were a "science" forum where you went to learn something. The HDM section and the format war changed all that. The rest of the forum not dealing with HD DVD or Blu-ray still rocks though IMO.

I can't believe someone told ME to take a chill pill on this forum. I think I just vomited blood. Instead of prescribing medication to me, YOU need to think about how my comments have NOTHING to do with the filmmakers you are talking about. I just think it is EXTREMELY unlikely that legal action FORCED them to shut it down. That's ridiculous. Also, after you surived my massive ignore list, you put me on yours? I feel betrayed.

I don't know WHAT the hell you are on about! Did I say that it's okay for film artists to be slammed on AVS? No. I am not even DISCUSSING the incidents you refer to. Sheesh.

Just another example that DUD is going down the tubes quickly. I can see the end of the tunnel for this format war...Just a few more miles to go and it's ours.

Regardless of whether or not AVSForum is pro HD DVD or neutral, their moderation of the Blu-ray software board drove me to Blu-ray.com.

The HD-DVD section was getting way out of hand. There was a thread today that I posted in saying that if PoTC was on HD-DVD there would be no framing issue cause they could use a firmware update and correct the framing. 1 out of 3 HD-DVD threads only say that BD sucks and HD-DVD is the superior format. Not to mention all the false information they were spreading. The BD section was much much calmer, still had some bashing going on, but not nearly as much as the HD-DVD section. But, when you are losing and dying that is how you act, desperate.

I could not have said it better myself. I was a long time AVS fan and last year I quickly saw what I perceived as an obvious lack of neutrality from some moderators there and it drove me here too. This place is nice.

Please. This is being far too kind to AVS ownership. They made a conscious choice to align themselves with Amir and his lying ways. Not only did they do nothing to stop him, they rewarded him with his own personal little playground in the insiders thread where he could spread propaganda without being challenged. "Discussions" with him became pointless, because the mods would delete all my points and leave his posts in tact.

You make it sound like the owners are innocent bystanders. They are not. They are reaping what they've sown. Their reputation should be damaged by the actions they've taken.

Plasma Flat panel forums as well.Members that don't side with Pioneer Kuro Mafia get post deleted by mods yet the pro Kuro post remains .Its called advertising and AVS doesn't want to lose. AVS is payed for.

We don't want you to think about other forums. In fact, we want you to forget there are other forums.

Forget.

Thumbs down

Everbody knows who the troublemakers were over there. They took the time to co-ordinate their attacks, via PM's. They started unsubstantiated rumours and just plain dupped others who didn't know any better. I can list them, but we all know who they are. I personally fought the FUD for months and challenged them outright on many topics, just to be tag teamed with no help from the mods over there. I took three suspensions, since summer, plus 4 different points infractions. I wonder how many of these kind of reprimands did these *******s receive during the same period? You can bet if one was suspended, 5 others were not. That is the sham of AVS, a website that I had been a member of since the year 2000. These other pricks have been there for mere months and have 6 to 7 thousand posts. That in it's self should have rang alarm bells and had these shills booted. AVS needs a timeout, not just the HDM area of the site.
