Then there is JK Rowling's "outing" of Dumbledor. What would Ritta Skeeter say about this??? She already spoke of him and Harrys relationship as questionable, now JK has thrown fire whiskey on the flames! She never talked about sex in the books, at least not much, we never knew or were told about anyones sexuality, now she drops this bombshell, this casts and ugly and unwanted light on Harry and his beloved headmaster, what was she thinking indeed?

I think an underlying theme about the whole series is tolerance. The tolerance between magical and muggle. Between Gryffindor and Slytherin, man and lycanthrope. The least tolerant of all was Voldemort. While I was a little "wha?" with the outing, I feel like Rowling is saying you all liked Dumbledore, didn't you? Is this new information diminishing his greatness? How is your own tolerance and understanding? Hopefully this news is an extra layer of depth that will in time be well appreciated.

Ian McKellan would make a great Dumbledore; his voice sounds more authoritative and he projects the persona much better....plus he already has the long white hair & beard from playing Gandalf
When Richard Harris died, his family really wanted Peter O'Toole to carry on the role. I'm a huge fan of him and I would have loved him to take over.

To get back on topic, i'll probably get it on HD DVD if i can get it a month early and it doesn't hurt my pocket book too much. If I don't get it early, it's going to be a toss up because my friend was telling me they have different extra content on them. Like the blu-ray version has a game you can play where as the HD DVD version has a more in depth look at the characters and the upcoming film(Half Blood Prince), can anyone confirm this?

Sucks we have to wait until the 13th of November to pre-order the 5th movie. I want to order all of them individually at once.

If anything they will be the same transfer, but I believe Warner has stated that they will using Blu to its full potential because HD Dud is just lacking when it come to space, GO FIGURE. Buy the Blu ray and not HD Dud you might as well Burn your money than waist it on a dying format.

Box art has been posted on the Apocalist Now sticky---wonder if the HD-DVD versions will also have 5.1 PCM soundtracks?

You just contradicted yourself, because to take advantage of Blu-ray they would require a new encode. Where did you read this?

Not necessarily... it could mean a special lossless track which would not require a different video transfer... one possibility.

I'm commenting on how this consumer is saying there would be separate versions with extra content on the Dud version and how f*#$ing hysterical it is that HD Dud could even compare. Yes It is very well known that Warner has the same encodes for both versions, SADLY. Look up Troy and the poor PQ because Warner Has to accommodate the dying format that doesn't have enough space. Its has been mentioned before that Warner should be creating separate encodes because Blu ray is far superior and can hold the futures next generation content where dud CANNOT.

Do you Do Blu?

guess most of you just ordered the boxset. lucky you. I got to pre-order it one by one, and took me £125 = $250+
I am officially bankrupt. I don't plan to buy anymore BD this year. I'll just wait the fulfilment of my pre-orders. there are 9 of them now.

Ahh...now I see what your getting at. It wasn't clear to me before. And, no need to lookup info on Troy. I'm well aware of the "Good Enough" encode.

Why would you get it a month early? the same date is announced for both versions.

No way. The main track will be TrueHD 5.1, like the original UK imports had. You'll never (rarely?) see PCM on HD DVD since TrueHD decoding is mandatory in the specification.

I agree. Harry Potter should be the true barometer for how this war is going as well as gage the impact of the 98$ HD DVD players sold in Nov/Dec (if there is any impact at all).

The movies come out on December 11th (Tuesday) and the Neilsen sales numbers the following Friday December 21st (right on time to ruin HD-Duders XMAS's).

The movie 300 sold 2/3 Blu-Ray 1/3 HD DVD (and HD DVD had the better specs/xtras). If Harry Potter movies as a whole sell in the same ratio or higher for Blu-Ray, HD DUD fans are going to cry and we are going to ruin their Xmas I can't wait

And then Warner will ruin their New Year because they will have all the ammo they need to ruin HD-DUD once and for all when, a couple of weeks later at the January 2008 CES, they announce Blu exclusivity.

Buying Potter will probably be the most important thing we can do as a community to ruin HD DVD.

Since HD DVD's aren't region locked, i could order the movie on HD DVD from the UK in which the movie releases i think Nov. 12th there. So therefore, i could get it a month early and i've really been waiting for the 5th one for a while so i might do so.

A short update from Germany on this topic:

Amazon.de is exclusively selling the High Definition Boxsets of Harry Potter here.

So these are the complete sales ranks at the moment (the numbers in brackets are from the single disc of HP5):

Blu-ray: #375 (#367)
HD-DVD: #1373 (#675)

Blu Boxset and Single Disc both outsell HD-DVD.

So nothing to worry from here. :-)
