Think we have to let go of Seasons 1-6 on Blu-Ray. Oddly enough, they indirectly responded our question by saying "Seasons 1 - 6 Available Now on DVD and Digital" on their latest pics. I find it sad and hilarious they left out Seasons 7 and 8 in there.

And bad news, which I'm hoping is an April Fool's Joke:

24 Now Streaming on Amazon Prime Exclusively - Full article (Click)

I'm just 2 seasons away! You can google it elsewhere. It's still working for my Netflix but I see tweets where people are outraged about this.

If people are outraged over their Netflix streaming no longer offering seasons of "24" then it's their own fault. The word was put out a few weeks ago that the current distribution deal between FOX and Netflix was set to expire and there wasn't any negotiation between the two for a renewal contract to continue digitally offering the series. Indicating that yes in fact Amazon Prime would be the only digital service offering the show. It's inconvenient sure, but we had warning of it and anyone familiar with Netflix knows that the streaming service updates its digital library every month. Titles are added but some are also removed, it's all resulting from expired distribution contracts. As for Amazon Prime, a membership is worth the price if you are a regular user of streaming services and/or you shop online. I'll be binge-watching "24" over the next month right up until 'Live Another Day' premieres

If, in fact, the future is all about streaming (not that I believe it is), this is what's going to happen. In order to have access to stuff, especially now that Netflix and Amazon are both doing their own shows, you are going to have a multitude of subscriptions to various services.

Streaming is going to be short-lived anyway once ISP's in the US start imposing data caps, which we know is coming (already being tested in certain areas and will spread like a virus once they decide to move past testing - it will fall like a chain of bricks across all ISPs within a short period of time once one fully commits). But the moving of content like this is just going to get worse, not better. And prices for these services is going to have to rise to compensate, as well.

Between how much more Internet will cost, and the inevitable increase in the price of streaming services as they compete for content, with the studios and networks selling to the highest bidder (or closest bed-mate), this is the "golden age" of streaming - to be enjoyed while it lasts.
+1. We already have data caps in the UK and its well known that certain providers "throttle" the bandwidth at peak times resulting in poorer internet connectivity. I dont stream any films but I do stream sports and I will get break up at certain times which is irritating - not as irritating as during a film though, cant even imagine how annoying that would be!

Streaming is not an option Im taking up for serious film/TV series watching.

One would hope the studios understand that there are many potential Blu-ray customers out there like myself that simply won't purchase the last couple seasons of a given show on Blu-ray until the entire show is made available on Blu-ray. That being said, count me in as one of the first in line to purchase 24 on Blu-ray once the entire show is made available on the format and not just the last couple seasons. Same for shows like The Office, House M.D. and the list goes on.

I assume this Amazon/NetFlix battle only concerns US customers? I have access to NetFlix all around the world, and 24 is working in the UK, Scandinavia etc.

Regarding amazon instant video, they have all the seasons on pretty good HD quality. So for those that can't wait, check it out. Although I'm gonna hold out for the blu-ray personally. The picture will probably still be a step-up from the amazon instant video hd and it will likely have DTS-HD audio too!

Are you sure? The little logo SAYS "HD" when you select the show, but when I'm watching it on my Xbox 360, it tells me that it maxes out in HD. Granted, this is season 2.

I haven't watched season 1 yet on Amazon, but I did watch it on Netflix before it expired, and I'm almost positive that was HD. The PS3 was even displaying "Super HD." Everything just looked so crisp. Plus, none of the subtitles were the original from the show and they were forced subtitles from Netflix, including "The following takes place between..." and I know those were done in the normal "24 font" on the DVDs.

But at any rate, I'd love to see a complete series Blu-Ray set released for the show. I'm really enjoying re-watching everything before Live Another Day comes out, as it's been several years since I've watched these early seasons.

Day 1 is the only DVD without a 5.1 mix, I would easily buy this to get Day 1 in 1080p24 with a proper surround mix.

Can't understand why anyone would say Day 3 sucked, the last six episodes beginning with Jack and Ryan Chappelle in the train yard right through to the end was one of the best episode runs of the entire show. 1~5 were pretty much all awesome for me, Day 6 is the series only real black eye.

Send a tweet to Jon Cassar, see if he knows anything about a Blu-ray release.

Yeah Netflix was in Super HD (which is just higher bitrate HD than the usual compressed HD birate), and I would say Amazon Instant Video looks more or less the same, well, from looking at it right now on my PC. Not sure if they have a different, slightly more compressed HD bitrate for other devices though.

Yeah Season 3 has some great moments, but for me it's just a little bit inconsistent. Nina Myers and Ryan Chappelle scenes were all great and rank amongst the best.

Season 3 was great. In fact, I consider Seasons 1 - 3 the immediate bests/golden years of 24 (5 is also memorable). But I do have to say Season 3 did start to slide half way minus moments like Chapelle. Nina Meyers is one of the greatest villains that received a death that felt so empty.
[Show spoiler]Sure she died where she killed off Terri but it felt so ... "uninspired".
They should have saved her to be honest. Heck, she would have made an amazing come back for Live Another Day (given that the writers know how to fit her in LAD so that it's not just for the sake of it).

I noticed this morning that VUDU has seasons 1-6 in HDX. So HD transfers for the first six seasons exist at least.

They were all available in HD to stream from Netflix for several months before Amazon got the exclusive streaming rights to them. Amazon currently has the entire series streaming in HD.

The HD transfer was done recently by HTV / Illuminate Hollywood.

It's also available on iTunes now but what iTunes has done with the source is ridiculous:

A lot of compression artifacts everywhere. No wonder if they encode the grainy picture with their typical low bitrate. At least it shows that a properly encoded Blu-ray could look pretty good.

Foxconnect is having a 50% off TV Shows sale. You can get Season 7 and 8 on Blu for $9.49 each (normally $18.99). I picked up the DVDs for Season 6 and Redemption for $6.49 each (normally $12.99) so now I have the "almost complete series" thanks to already having purchased 1-5 years ago.

Is it the Extended Cut of Redemption?
