yeah, but also keep in mind we are talking soley about kids movies. the movies i have noticed that have gotten mixed in are Ghost Rider, TMNT, 300, Knocked Up, and We Are Marshall. The other thing my store does is these little dvd/bd cubicals as you enter the store for new releases, very flashy, the blu-ray is always in the middle of the dvds with a little BD logo underneath. I think it would easy to simply pick up Surf's Up or Ratatouille on BD (both had these promo displys), continue shopping. and remember people at wal-mart are shopping for other things than bds, so if your totla comes out to 105 and you estimated it to be 100, you really won't question it.

And of course if this is happening at Wal-Mart, who doesn't report to Nielsen, it won't make a difference on the rankings.

See thats the thing HDMI DVD confuse people & stuff like well I have an HDTV so now all my TV shows are HD WRONG! & their DVDs are in HD now because its hooked up to a HDTV WRONG! People just NEED to be schooled in all of this...

You know a lot of mom's out there will doing the shopping-cart-hustle and be tossing the wrong discs into the basket.
what scares me a little is people who pick up hd dvds thinking it will work on a dvd player and make it hd (non-combos) they find out the won't work (if its not a combo) and research it a little and find out the need a hd dvd player. well, hd dvd players are under 100 bucks and i already bought a 24.99 movie, ill just go out and take the hd plunge and buy a player.

If not for the PS3 (because it's selling in the millions), that would have me very worried. DVD to HD DVD. Seems only natural (intuitive, even). DVD to Blu-ray ... huh? What the heck's a blu-ray, some kinda ray gun?

without the ps3, blu-ray would probably be done this xmas. hd dvd was winning until the ps3 came out. what i would like to see is if blu-ray was losing and hd dvd was winning what the player prices would be. i bet hd dvd would be going for $249 on black friday and blu-ray would be at $199.

Yep. I've said the exact same thing before. That's the one leg up HD-DVD has over Blu-ray in their marketing strategy. BDA has to spend a whole lot of money to rewire the publics interpretation of packaged media for the home. "I DO BLU" campaign is an attempt at this using a psychological "sticky" marketing phrase.

And they can do it with enough marketing. Blu-ray could become the catchall word for high-def media. Just like buying Kleenex, Scotch Tape, Popsicles, Q-Tips, Rolodex, Band-Aids....

Is it really necessary to be saying that people in uniform are stupid?

Why does everyone think the average consumer is mentally deficient? It's one thing that these "average" consumers don't know the difference between HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, but they are not just going to buy some movie that is $10-15 more (Rat was $15.99 on first day, $30 on Blu-Ray) and not notice ... or not notice that the case is different, that is "Blu-Ray".

I'm sure it happens, but I very seriously doubt it is enough to skew the weekly numbers by even a fraction of a percent.

not at wal-mart, it was 19.99 for dvd and 24.99 for blu-ray. the target of this thread is way more likely to buy a movie at wal-mart than at bby or cc,

But just because someone shops at Wal-Mart does not mean they cannot determine the difference between a Blu-Ray and a DVD. It's primitive. Shape, size, color.

Some see hd-dvd and say yes that must be the next logical step, but others think that a brand new better format should distance itself from the former. Blu-ray is new and better. Hd-dvd is just a little better than dvd. They don't call dvd's "dvd-vhs" for a reason.
