I have both the Samsung and the Panasonic and to be honest after the firmware upgrades the PQ on both of them are almost the same (the Panny has the slight edge in sharpness still IMO). I'm very happy with it and would be even more so if I had gotten it at the price point it's at now

I have just got mine at Best Buy, good deal $699 open box, and they give you a $250 gift card back. With which i have purchased 4 years warranty and three BD movies. I have to say I like the player, it does a good job in up-converting too. I have noticed a slight improvement after the FW update. I still need to have the Harmony to learn some of the buttons, other than that this is a great player.

Does anyone have some information about blu-ray region code hack for this player ? My BD-P1000 have region "C" and there are problems with some "A" disks.

Well, after watching most of Blackhawk down (blu ray) I must say I am impressed. Very sharp, and the sound is great. Compared to my Sony upconvert, good improvement in detail and color. If I would have pad $1000 for the Sony I might have been slightly disappointed, but I am spoiled by HD tv already. At $500, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Gonna watch Casino Royale tonight with the wife.

wow, i couldn't tell you till i get home. i'm basically running the standard settings transferred to custom with some tweaks to brightness and playing around with the color settings a tad. i actually used some of the configuration screens on the sony BR discs (type 7669 on the main menu from the remote) to zero in a bit. FYI- the set does some overscanning which i don't like, so you won't be able to make it exact. i have looked about trying to reduce this from the service menus but haven't found the exact methodology yet.

Cool, thanks. I tuned mine with Aria and it looks pretty good. Had to add some gamma, but mines pretty close to standard, better color.

Watchin tears of the sun now on SD DVD, and this thing blows away the upconvert of my Sony 75h.

Are you sending 720p ( I currently am) or 1080i to the tv. I've heard comments both ways on this but never saw a diff with my Sony upconvert.

im running 1080i. more lines = more detail no matter how you spin it

do you have tears on BR? i'd run it on ur upconvert then on ur sammy. be prepared for a world of difference.

No, only on SD DVD. I can say the upconvert is better than my old unit.

no worries. it is a great upconvert. my old DVD was from ~1999, granted it had DTS so was pretty nice for then. i then got the sammy earlier this year and wow, a world of difference. now when i throw in a BR, i am impressed every time.

Question Samsung BD-P1000

I love to hear people, owner of BD-P1000, experience of this player and what is postive and negative, how long have you own this player.

I am lean toward purchase Samsung BD-P1000 this year. I want to hear some more from owners' experience with this player.

Thanks.

I picked up this player over a month ago on Ebay (new) for $380. So far, I am very happy with it (also own the HD DVD add-on). As soon as I opened the box and set it up, I applied the latest firmware from Samsung. I have had zero issues with this player so far and have watched over a dozen movies.

There are a few cons with this player:
- Does not support HDMI 1.3 or have advanced lossless audio decoders built in, so it will not be possible to decode TrueHD/DTS-HD MTA soundtracks if these start becoming more popular vs PCM. This is not really an issue right now or for the next 12 months most likely.
- Only supports BD-J profile 1.0. What does this mean? Well, future Blu-Ray movies will over advanced IME (in movie experience) features such as PiP (picture in picture) directors commentary, or things like java games. Please note that this player will stay play movies without any issues, it will just not be able to play some of the advanced features. Was not an issue for me.

I am sure there are some additional cons, but so far I am very happy with my BD-P1000. My intent was to get this player for under $400 and then buy a better player in the next 12-18 months when there are more features and they cost much less.
