Feature-length episodes, so not so odd.

I know how long they are. Still weird.

Why? If there was a boxed set of nine films, no one would bat an eye.

They're not films, they're TV shows. The length doesn't change that.

A difference which makes no difference is no difference.

If you're speaking about run time then I agree. Sherlock was a TV show made for TV broadcast and the run time doesn't matter. Glad we agree.

Well, they do feel more like TV movies than a TV show. High-quality TV movies, of course.

I don't see them as any more high quality in the production value sense than any other cop show. The thing that makes Sherlock great is the writing.

If feels more cinematic than any other cop show on tv. It's nothing like the normal procedurals. Top that off with fantastic performances and writing, as well as film length, it makes them much more than just another TV show. It feels like we get three movies a year from the series.

Agree to disagree. TV isn't the same as it was in the 80's, every decent show has a film quality and look with proper direction and cinematography. This show isn't any different. What makes it different and really good is the writing and acting.

Aw, come now. Sherlock is far better than film standard-it's a TV show with that level of maturity and thought. No need to start calling it a film-it would never descend to such depths.

It's been confirmed that the Sherlock special is going to be a period piece set in Victoria London. This promises to be a lot of fun:
