I buy Disney/Marvel blus from Redbox for $5. It's the exact same disc (special features and all), and Disney releases have gotten cheaper in their production (no slips, cover art, DVDs, digital copies, bonus discs, etc.) while rarely getting cheaper in price.
I dunno. I only own 2 Disney Blu, Frozen and the Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Ed., and both are beautiful with wonderful slips. But like I said, those are the only 2 I have.

It depends on how much I enjoyed the film. If it's a film I love, I have no issue paying $20-$25.

I don't think $20 is too much for a blu ray if you're really excited about seeing the film. A trip to theater costs more than that, and with a blu ray you get extras and as many future viewings as you want thrown in.

Same thing for season sets, $50 or so is fine for a full 20+ episodes, or $35 or so for 12 episodes. I think that's more than fair pricing for what's offered.

I think we kind of shoot ourselves in the foot waiting for bargains, because then studios make much less and as a result put in much less effort and interest.

I'm a university student and so my budget is very slim. Typically, I wait until films that I want are around $5 before I buy them. However, if it's a film that I know will never reach that price, or if it's a film that is a limited release and I know I'll miss out if I don't preorder it, I'll pay the full price.

When I graduate and begin my career, I'll buy whatever I want, whenever I want, regardless of price, because I'll be able to.

Depends on the movie, and whether or not it comes with a DVD. For the big name movies, i can usually flip the DVD for $7-$10 depending on the title.

To be completely honest, I have pretty much limited myself to special/limited editions for my purchases. I have made a few exceptions, but that was only because some gift cards have come my way. But about 90% of my purchases now are Zavvi steelbooks and Scream Factory titles (I always pre-order from them to get the poster as well). I'll pick up a few standard releases here and there, but I just don't rush to get them on day one anymore. The last release I paid near full price for was Saving Mr. Banks, but again, that was because there was a Disney premium attached to it.

Better hope you're an engineer or medical student if that's your expectation!

Not only are all your points excellent, but there's another:

two, three, six of you can sit around and watch something. At even $12/person, you're talking WAY more than $20.

Dude, you can rent a movie at Redbox for $1.

I don't really do Redbox. For whatever reason. Never really got into it. I don't know, maybe I'll change my gist in 2015.

It's fantastic for a blu-ray fan. Just don't make the mistake of the mouth-breathers who stand around at a Redbox looking for a movie. Use the website (or the app) to search for the movie you want, find the nearest kiosk that has it, reserve it, and then go pick it up.

You can return the movie at any Redbox ( closest to you), not the one where you get the movie.

$20 is usually my cap on releases I really want.

Recent examples... I got both EE's of the Hobbit films, GotG 3D, Wolverine 3D, and X-Men: DoFP 3D Ultimate Edition for $19.96 release day. I really wanted Edge of Tomorrow the first day but didn't bite at the $22.99 price tag (I wanted 3D, but not for $28). Glad I waited since I got the 2D for $7.99 a few weeks later on BF.

The only releases I pay more for are box sets, TV series, and my love/hate relationship with overpriced Marvel titles.

Gotcha. Thanks.

There's one right near me, actually. I don't know why I never started using it.

When you say full price do you mean retail price?

Back in the DVD glory days, I recall the purchases ranging from $15 to $20, and maybe $25 average for TV shoes.

Now, in the Blu-Ray era, I usually wait for most releases to hit $10 but for the releases I want most (e.g. Criterions or certain TT films), I am willing to pay far more than my DVD average.
