but it'll still be magnitudes better than anything you'd get from any 1080p tv.

I called denon and they said my teciever supports 12 but color depth. I have it plugged into hdmi 1. Is there a other hdmi on my tv I should be using that has better specs? I tried to look at AVS but didn't dind anything specific on which hdmi input to use for my tv.

No you will be fine with HDMI slot one, but no matter what you won't be able to see High Dynamic Range(HDR) images, the TV will just display the image in Standard Dynamic Range(SDR), also you will only see colours within the REC 709 colour space. The TV will just jettison any information it can't display.

Having gone front projection last year, I lost all interest in flat panels. Front projection - done right - is just an amazing experience at home. I realize it is not feasible for everyone, BUT, if you can do it - do it! It will completely change the home theater experience unlike you can imagine.

Default Wow I'm glad I waited to buy my 4k UHD TV

I don't think any set can do Rec 2020 yet?

Some might support it, but that doesn't mean that it can output it.

Even the top of the line flagship Panasonic 2015 4K LCD can only get 98 pct. DCI colour space and even that is a fraction of what Rec 2020 is!

this is why I'm not worried about the gap between the proposed UHD Blu-ray specs and current 4K tvs. It'll be years before there actually ARE 4K tvs available to meet all of the specs, and probably another few years before content makes it through the pipeline that actually uses it.

HDR, HFR, rec.2020, etc. aren't even being captures at the camera in most cases right now. The first movies to use them are probably not even in production yet, let alone hitting physical media soon enough to impact the buying decision.

I just bought a 4K tv this year, so I'll probably buy another on in 4 or 5 years. By that time all of this will be sorted out hopefully, and OLEDs may be the norm by then.

No current flat panel can, but one front projector has that WCG capability

However, be that as it may, I still like 4K fanatic’s spirit.

I will probably do the same. But it won't be this year for the TV, probably next year. However, I will buy a player and the discs this year if possible, with any luck I may see an improvement on this Pioneer Kuro.

None of your UHD TV support all that...yet...

Last I checked...

The 64F8500, as a 2 year old set, beat all your "1st gen" half-baked UHD televisions...

What you all seem to be forgetting. And maybe typing it all in caps will get the message across...

THERE IS NOTHING, AT ALL, ANYWHERE, AT ANY PRICE, THAT INCLUDES HDMI 2.0 AND HDCP 2.2 ON THE SAME HDMI INPUT.

Period.
End.
Of.
Story.

Also. LCD, no matter what "quantum dot" or "nano tech" is put in it, is EVER going to beat OLED or plasma. PERIOD.

And yes. A 1-off 58" Panny(NHK help) UHD plasma was made.

Why did it not make production?

The European Union and California.

The equation for power use for the EU was 400 watts-ish. The TV chewed on 675. 200 more than California regs.

Therefore...it died.

Sony VPL-VW600ES and VPL-VW1100ES 4K (true 4K) video projectors do. Onkyo PR-SC5530 processor has one HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 input.

I do not follow TV's so can not speak about them.

Were they shot digitally? If they were on film HDR is there as standard. It's just the way film works, film captured what's there. In fact film will capture far beyond what HDR will display, UHDR will be right behind HDR.

Not true at all, it would depend on the cinematographers intentions
