Target is sure they will release it 3 ways, DVD, Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray....

Without looking at the websites, I could have guessed Marvel/Disney would release The Avengers: Age of Ultron in those 3 formats....until the studio actually announces the title, it is all guessing...
Not really. Studios and retailers plan months and even years in advance what they want to do as far as home video releases are concerned.

I'll wait a while to preorder the movie. I won't preorder anything until there is at least a release date for it. Plus, I want to know which edition is going to have that extended cut I keep hearing about.

Would I like an extended cut? Absolutely.

Will we get it? Extremely unlikely. Past history shows Disney is notoriously stingy with extras. We may get cut scenes and a commentary, plus some two minute long fluff pieces, but anything more than that is expecting too much, I'm afraid.

As for release, I'm hoping for early September, but that remains to be seen.

August will be the Daredevil season set--so I agree on Sept.

That's not what I'm reading and being told. Several sites are reporting that the movie had 45 minutes cut out, which explains the poor editing in some areas (such as the off screen discovery of Strucker), so why wouldn't they release it?

That was Whedon's rough cut.

That was pretty much the deal with the first movie as well, and there were even rumours that there would be another limited theatrical release later in 2012 of a "director's cut" but it wasn't true.

The rumours for an extended edition come from 1) Whedon saying a lot of stuff was cut, and 2) Amazon UK sending out that email claiming there'd be an extended edition. I wouldn't trust Amazon at all when it comes to that, so while I'd love a longer version, I'd say it's unlikely because Disney put in minimum effort with their releases. I wouldn't believe anything until I saw them officially confirm it, but I'd say it's highly unlikely.

Sounds about right. Art of Daredevil is coming in September, so makes sense to have the blu-ray out to support. Could come out in September as well, though.

There also precedence with TIH. A metric ton of stuff was cut to try and reduce the length and even that release, done by Universal, was not extended. We will get cut scenes, but no extended cut.

Unless Ultron takes over Disney and leaks it all to us.

They will release this on September 22, 2015.

It's always the penultimate week in September if the film was released in the first week of May.
