I can't believe that Freddy Krueger ranks 3rd among the big 80s slasher villain three.
I always found him to be a far more interesting and dynamic character than Jason or Michael Meyers.
I think Freddy would be higher on the list if they had maintained the tone of the first two films, but he became so goofy and campy throughout the series that it's hard to take him seriously or find him scary.
I hear you,its never a wrong time to watch horror.90% of my movie watching is horror but the fun part is getting all these new horror releases and holding out until oct to enjoy them,so many still sealed and it kills me but it's worth the wait for this time of the year...Enjoy
Oh, I agree. Horror movies are great all year 'round. It's just that almost all the horror movies I have, I've seen multiple times. The ones that I've bought in the last couple weeks, I'm trying to hold off on for a little bit longer, but it's...so...hard.
Yeah, I don't know why it's so late this year either.
Still, it's all good now.
im almost certain he was being sarcastic.... as in, its not October yet

let me tell ya, to a child, just looking at Freddy is terrifying...
for me personally, it was freddy who scared the ish outta me when i was kid. Jason and Micahel were always more "funny" than scary for me actually.
Not your "typical" horror film but very well done. This stylish, atmospheric, slow burn film was a delight to watch! I loved the way this was filmed with it's exquisite cinematography & superbly eerie music!!
9/18 -*From Hell
This is another take of the most famous serial killer of all times
[Show spoiler]Jack the Ripper who terrorized the White Chapel region of London in the late 1800s.
It is stylish, atmospheric with great cinematography in the horror/mystery/crime genre.
9/20 -*Mirrors
Good cast but pretty humdrum for me.
[Show spoiler]Keifer caught behind the Mirrors
9/20 -*The Last House on the Left
Only good thing for me was
[Show spoiler]these murderous lunatics got their due justice & good to see Aaron Paul & Garret Dillahunt.
[Show spoiler]9/22 -Billy the Kid Versus Dracula for sentimental reasons
This brought back great memories as my mom, brother & me went to visit my moms' sister & they drove me & my bother to see a double-headed at a small theater of Billy the Kid Versus Dracula & Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter & then picked us up in 1966 when we were little boys! Loved John Carradine in this
9/22 -Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter for sentimental reasons
Combined 2 of my fav genres with western/horror!
9/22 -Fright Night
Great movie...would love to see this with all the looks as was portrayed in Fright Night in a serious, atmospheric, gothic style around the 17-1800 era! When I first saw this I did not realize
[Show spoiler]David Tennant was in this
.
9/23 -*Twice-told Tales
Dr. Heidegger's Experiment was pretty boring same with Rappaccini's Daughter but I did enjoy The House of the Seven Gables...it had that gothic, atmospheric vibe I enjoy.
9/25 - *The Witches
This had alot of the ambiances I enjoy, classy, subtle, outdoor cinematography & great looking buildings/countryside of a small English village. It may be a little slow for the taste of today's horror audience, with no gore(which I do not enjoy if it is too much, however I can handle some) per se, but this movie is right within 'my cup of tea'.
9/27 -The Bride
Oh what a Beautiful Bride she is! The beautiful Bride Jennifer Beals & the handsome Sting as Baron Von Frankenstein & Clancy Brown as Viktor with David Rappaport as Rinaldo were a great cast. This is a beautifully made movie with great atmosphere, elaborate sets/costumes & exquisite photography, beautiful music & filmed on location in a castle and countryside of Europe. Also enjoyed the sets within the castle & laboratory with the stormy/lightning atmosphere, such a great setting. Not scary, but extremely classy, gothic & beautiful countryside, all prerequisites for being my 'cup of tea'! Thought they could have made a sequel if....you'll have to watch it. Highly Recommended Would love to see a beautiful blu-ray of The Bride!!!
9/28 - *Ghostly Grins - King of the Zombies
I've been dezombieized...a few funny moments, poor PQ & AQ.
Spooktacular hilariously double-feature!
9/29 - *Spooks Run Wild
Can not go wrong with Bela Lugosi & The Bowery Boys in an old mansion.
9/29 - *Topper Returns
Good old-fashioned ghostly hijinks in a haunted house. Loved the role of Cosmo Topper played by Roland Young with Joan Blondell as Gail Richards & the beautiful Carole Landis as Ann Carrington. Can you name what great movie the actress who played Cosmo's wife Clara Billie Burke was in.
9/30 - *Frankenstein: The Complete Miniseries
Very interesting adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein that kept close to her intent! This had magnificent locations as it was filmed in Slovakia & Norway.
9/30 - *The House of Seven Corpses
I always enjoy the cinematography of an old haunted house & cemetary. This is a good 70's horror movie within a horror movie. John Carradine & John Ireland are always a +!
9/30 - *Fright Night 2: New Blood
Started out nicely then downhill for me.
Started off October with 2 marvelous classics just made right for this brisk October evening!
10/1 -Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
This is a fantastic classic that I never get tired of watching! It is in my top ten of all the movies I enjoy. The classic monsters with Abbott & Costello & even
[Show spoiler]Vincent Price's voice as the Invisible Man
just added to the greatness of this movie. I actually thought when I first watched this from that ending that we would get a sequel.
10/1 -An American Werewolf in London
Another one of my favorites. This has such amazing special-effects & of course I love the moors of northern England. There is so many good moments in this, such as I love the pub's name The Slaughtered Lamb & the locals inside of it.
10/2 -Dracula
A stylish, gothic adaptation of Dracula. A great cast of Frank Langella as Count Dracula, Laurence Olivier as Professor Van Helsing & Donald Pleasence as Dr. Seward, also the beautiful women Kate Nelligan as Lucy & Jan Francis as Mina Van Helsing. One downer for me was the lack of color!
10/2 -Christine
Fury from HELL
Bad to the Bone...Keep on knockin but you can't come in...You're mine and we belong together...Rock n Roll is here to stay
10/3 -The Devil's Advocate
Great cast with Al Pacino as John Milton aka
[Show spoiler]the devil
notice how subtle & crafty he is, Keanu Reeves as lawyer Kevin Lomax, watch out the lure of temptation will always come back to haunt you & Charlize Theron as Kevin's wife Mary Ann Lomax. This is how a BD PQ should look on all movies!
10/3 -The Omen (1976)
Superb cast with Gregory Peck as Robert Thorn an American diplomat that is appointed ambassador to Great Britain, the lovely Lee Remick as Robert's wife, Harvey Stephens as Damien, Billie Whitelaw as Mrs. Baylock the nanny, David Warner as freelance photographer Keith Jennings, Patrick Troughton as Father Brennan. So many great scenes throughout The Omen such as
[Show spoiler]the safari park, Damiens' 5th birthday party, The Thorns travel to the church one Sunday, Father Brennan at the church, Thorn & Jennings travel to a local cemetery, Thorn and Jennings travel to Jerusalem...so many!
. Perfect ambiance on a overcast fall day or night, highly recommend...let yourself go and instill yourself in the world of The Omen...Pleasant nightmares
10/4 -Pet Sematary
There were some elements in this movie like the cat & some of the effects. I did enjoy Fred Gwynne, but overall this was a for me.
10/4 -The Amityville Horror
This is very entertaining haunted house (70's)movie for me. Great cast with James Brolin as George Lutz and Margo Kidder as Kathy Lutz with Rod Steiger as Father Delaney. I enjoy this type of film in a "let yourself go & visualize yourself actually there at the scenes". I love these 70's horror types of movies where it is not so blatant but more atmospheric & has eerie forms of evil that are also sometimes so subtle.
10/5 -*Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist
Laborious, but liked that we got the background of Father Merrin. Beautiful locations and the PQ of this BD was excellent.
10/5 -*Werewolf: The Beast Among Us
Wish we could have seen the Werewolf more often, the story though was all over the place.
Received Hammer Horror Classics, Volume One today & was hoping to watch these later in the month, but could not resist myself tonight!
10/6 -The Mummy
A Hammer classic that has all the great elements in it from Egypt to England. Christopher Lee as Kharis & Peter Cushing as John Banning are outstanding. Loved the look of this from the great locations to the detail of everything in the houses, highly recommend!
10/6 -*Taste the Blood of Dracula
I have never seen this version. This is an excellent gothic atmospheric movie with luscious sets & exquisite outdoor locations that truly are 'my cup of tea'! Christopher Lee is at his best as the menacing Count Dracula. Another Hammer classic that gets my seal of approval!!
10/7 -Count Dracula
One of my favorite adaptations of Count Dracula. It stays close to the original novel. The sets, designs & locations are fantastic. Many of the scenes are shot on location. It is atmospheric, gothic & Louis Jordan is a fantastic Dracula, albeit they did not show him enough for me. As always some beautiful women in Count Dracula.
10/7 -The Brides Of Dracula
This is a classy, stylish film as Peter Cushing is absolutely great as Van Helsing. Gorgeous set designs with great detail & gorgeous women, this is another fav of mine.
10/8 -*Sleepy Hollow
The headless horseman and the set designs/period piece...not much else for me.
10/9 -The Wolfman (2010)
"Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf with the wolfsbane blooms and the moon is full and bright" ...This is my second favorite Wolfman movie as the tragic saga of Larry Talbot continues. The 19th century gothic, atmospheric mood is shot beautifully along with the great special effects. Loved that they had Chief Inspector Abberline of Scotland Yard the Inspector who was at the time assigned to the Jack The Ripper case on the hunt.
10/9 -The Wolfman (1941)
My favorite Wolfman! This is stylish, classy and has the gothic, atmospheric mood I love. From the set designs to the little detail they put in each scene. Look at this powerhouse lineup of Lon Chaney, Jr. as Larry Talbot, Claude Rains as his elderly father, Evelyn Ankers as Gwen, Maria Ouspenskaya as the fortune-teller, and Bela Lugosi as her cursed son. It just does not get any better then this to watch an enjoyable film on an over-cast autumn day that will put any horror fan in the mood!!.
10/10 -Halloween
I thoroughly enjoy the neighborhood walking scenes in the autumn, leaves blowing with that wonderful theme music and also the car scenes throughout the neighborhood with Michael Myers driving, absolutely A-1! Michael seems to be
[Show spoiler]going after promiscuous couples alot.
Great cast with as Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis, a young Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode & the great director/music by John Carpenter.
Fantastic action from start to finish! Love the cast with Chucky as "Good Guy Doll", Brad Dourif as Charles Lee Ray, Catherine Hicks as Karen Barclay, Chris Sarandon as Mike Norris, Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay. I wish they would have
[Show spoiler]kept Dinah Manoff as "Aunt Maggie" a little bit longer.
Also enjoy the time period this takes place in.
10/11 -Son of Frankenstein
Excellent cast with Basil Rathbone as Baron Wolf von Frankenstein, Bela Lugosi as Ygor, Lionel Atwill as Krough and the great Boris Karloff as The Monster. Frankenstein returns to his family's estate to right the wrongs of his father, Ygor helps him bring The Monster back to life. With the great atmosphere of the castle's lab with underground secret passages & the town, this is another great classic in the Frankenstein Legacy!
10/11 -Ghost of Frankenstein
Another stellar cast with Sir Cedric Hardwicke as Baron Frankenstein, Lionel Atwill as Dr. Bohmer, Bela Lugosi as Ygor, Evelyn Ankers(she was in The Wolfman) as Elsa and the great Lon Chaney, Jr. as The Monster. This is a fantastic extension of SoF where Ygor has his own desires as he brings the Monster to Frankenstein. Whereas Frankenstein has a different agenda for the Monster. Absolutely another enjoyable classic in the Frankenstein Legacy..."a oldie but goodie", I never stop enjoying these classy Universal Monsters...they do not make movies like these anymore for me!
[/i]
I am on a roll with these classic, stylish movies from The Legacy collection as they are providing fun, enjoyable viewing on these marvelous autumn days!
You can not get any better then this!!
10/12 -House of Frankenstein
Another great classic in the Legacy collection. Boris Karloff is Dr. Gustav Niemann, Lon Chaney, Jr. is Larry Talbot, John Carradine is Count Dracula, J. Carrol Naish as Daniel the Hunchback assistant to Dr. Gustav Niemann, Glenn Strange is The Monster. It is good to see Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolf Man and Count Dracula in this movie, although Count Dracula is not seen with them! I wish they would have given the Monsters more screen time in all these Universal Monster movies though.
10/12 -House of Dracula
We have the great powerhouse lineup of John Carradine, Lon Chaney Jr., and Glenn Strange as the monsters. Count Dracula and the Wolf Man seek a cure from Dr. Franz Edelmann. Notice that the great Lionel Atwill is an Inspector in quite of few of these Legacy films. Sit back grab your favorite snack & drink and enjoy these fantastic Universal Monster movies!
10/13 - Dracula's Daughter
Another "golden oldie" in the Dracula series with his daughter, the lovely Countess Marya Zaleska (Gloria Holden) trying to be released from the Dracula curse. Edward van Sloan plays Professor Van Helsing who is held in custody by Scotland yard. Otto Kruger plays psychologist Jeffrey Garth who meets the Countess at a party and tells him she would liked to be released from her obsession. His girlfriend and assistant Janet Blake played by the lovely(have you noticed there is many lovely ladies in these films) Marquerite Churchill is not happy with the Countess's attention with him. The Countess Marya Zaleska's assistant Sander played by Irving Pichel is a very interesting 'ghoul' looking character.
10/13 - Son of Dracula
Kay Caldwell played by Louise Allbritton returns from traveling in Hungary, and is interested in the supernatural. Count Alucard (Lon Chaney, Jr) is invited to be a guest at her family's plantation and the 'spooky' is on! The lovely Evelyn Ankers who plays Kay's sister is in alot of these Legacy films!
10/14 - Disc 2 The Stalls of Barchester[/i]
An adaptation based on M R James' ghost stories. A antiquarian through papers in a cathedral library puts together a supernatural revenge put upon a clergyman 100 yrs. earlier. Beautiful choir music!
10/14 - Disc 2 A Warning to the Curious[/i]
An adaptation based on M R James' ghost stories. Loved the setting of the Norfolk coast, this is a tale of an amateur archaeologist who searches for a Anglo-Saxon lost crown & when he digs it up desperately wants to rebury it because of a haunting figure.
These type of subtle, classy, imaginative short ghost stories are my 'cup of tea'!!
10/15 -The Picture of Dorian Gray
Outstanding film that reveals the horrific effects of debauchery and evil.. This is the best adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray, mind you it is one of those stylish, atmospherric, classy supernatural tales without the gore.
I sent my Soul through the Invisible, Some letter of that After-life to spell: And by and by my Soul return'd to me, And answer'd: "I Myself am Heaven and Hell."
10/15 -ANGEL On My Shoulder
Great cast with Paul Muni as Eddie Kagle a gangster who bases his life on what Omar Khayyam once said: "Live fully while you may and reckon not the cost.", Claude Rains is diabolical and Anne Baxter is the beautiful judge's fiance.
A double-feature of Dracula...watch these in this order! Pleasant nightmares hhhmmmm
10/16 -Dracula (1958)
I really enjoyed the narration of Johnathan Harker. The set designs & the specific details throughout makes this one of my most enjoyable Dracula. The great Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing as Dr. Van Helsing...ah what can I say magnificent!
10/16 -Dracula Prince Of Darkness
Four unconcerned vacationers from England traveling in eastern Europe end up in the Carpathian Mountains and are warned not to go to the castle(oh no!) The gothic atmosphere and the cinematography are outstanding(I just love those outdoor shots)! Another classic that is 'my cup of tea' especially at this autumn time of the year!!
10/17 - Corpse Bride
Cute film but not as good as I was hoping.
10/17 - Werewolf of London
Wish this would have been better, not a great werewolf to me.
10/17 - She-Wolf of London
This one had some great sets and you had to use your imagination alot more. The beautiful Mrs. "Lassie" in here!
10/17 - COUNT DRACULA(1969)
Another great atmospheric adaptation of Dracula. In this particular story Count Dracula(Christopher Lee) goes to the shores of England because he must feed to stay young and alive. Their is the beautiful Lucy(Soledad Miranda) and the beautiful Mina(Maria Rohm), Fred Williams is a great Jonathan Harker, Herbert Lom as Van Helsing and Klaus Kinski as Renfield. Loved the music which rendered that forbiding mood!
10/18 -*The Face of Fu Manchu(1965)
Very entertaining film in a Saturday matinee type of way. The ambiance was just right with great color & cinematography. The evil Fu Manchu(brilliantly played by Christopher Lee) is out to dominate the world. The will of Fu Manchu is indomitable, can you match his!
10/19 -Dracula Has Risen From the Grave
Another stellar performance from Christopher Lee. A stylish, atmospheric movie with great cinematography and set designs(PQ is excellent!), also those beautiful women, my oh my. I think this is the definitive Dracula for me with his blood red shot eyes and long flowing black cape with the menacing coach & those black horses with their black tassles...yeah! I thought though there could have been a better storyline...but hey, it is DRACULA
10/19 - The Mummy's Hand
A fun movie and of course a 3,000-year-old mummy...what's not to like! Beware of when the moon is full for Kharis and the tanna leaves are not far behind, muhahaha.
10/20 - *Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
An outstanding film which is the fifth in the Hammer Frankenstein series. Peter Cushing is Baron Frankenstein as he is the main focus throughout. There are some turnouts concerning him that did me! The lavish and attentive details is another Hammer Horror classic home-run for me.
10/20 - *The Mummy's Tomb
Kharis(Lon Chaney, Jr.)is brought over from Egypt to the United States by the high priest and continues his vengeance in this outstanding continuation from The Mummy's Hand. I absolutely enjoy these Universal Monster Legacy Collection's. They can not make movies this entertaining and with the stylish Gothic atmosphere, with the terrific sets, period pieces and locations IMO!
I had so much fun with The Mummy's Legacy yesterday, I had to have that same fun today & finish the last two in this outstanding series!
10/21 - *The Mummy's Ghost
Lon Chaney, Jr. returns as Kharis in his search for Ananka's reincarnation. A young looking(you'll know him by those wild-eyed stares!) John Carradine as an Egyptian priest adds the fun to this. Those tanna leaves are so rejuvenating to Kharis.
10/21 - *The Mummy's Curse
Lon Chaney, Jr. in his final film appearance returns as the mummy Kharis. He leaves death & destruction wherever he goes. He is able to get back again with his princess Ananka. A terrific ending to an outstanding series, I wish they would have continued with this series. Highly Recommend these sequels!!!
I think Freddy would be higher on the list if they had maintained the tone of the first two films, but he became so goofy and campy throughout the series that it's hard to take him seriously or find him scary.
Can't disagree with that.
But he was the only one who actually had a personality.
Therefor he was the only one who had the potential for character growth.
...I can't blame Freddy for what the writers and producers did.
freddy was always my favorite for two reasons.... he actually had personality and theres more of a storyline with the franchise than the others...
I really wish WB would finally release Freddy's Nightmares on DVD. Man, it was such a shit show, but I enjoyed it. It's pretty much the only big 80s horror show that hasn't made it to disc.
Doesn't have any of the charm of Troll 1 and 2. Altogether pretty forgettable.
A Blood Story (2015)
4 / 10
Mindy Robinson is good in this but the plot seems thrown together.
Halloween Night (2006)
5.5 / 10
Does a decent job of following the slasher guide lines. Liked the killer's burned look. Also enjoyed the lesbian couple as they had nice chemistry and didn't seem cheap.
Looking forward to it, one of my friends has not a lot of the classic horror movies. The ones I have shown her she has really enjoyed so looking forward to her seeing more.
The ending is kind of awesome. It's just a shame that overall the interesting aspects were secondary and it was difficult to care about the human characters.
