Best movie of this summer IMO. Creepier than the original, more disturbing, and I found this particular story more fleshed out and developed. The original was very good -- this one is even better.

Just saw it Friday night. The only show times for the movie during the entire day were at 10:35 PM funnily enough. But, as of right now, The Conjuring 2 is better than the original and all in all a superb horror movie and maybe my favorite horror movie I've seen. If it's still in theaters around you, go see it now. Day one buy for me. Here are my thoughts...

[Show spoiler]A better soundtrack than the original (Joseph Bishara is great), some very well designed scares (the scene involving the painting and Lorraine in the room was creepy as hell), the use of "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" was awesome, the creepy whistling of "This Old Man" nursery rhyme was chilling, amazing cinematography (the shots of the fog in the backyard at night was beautiful), great acting all around by the cast with Madison Wolfe doing a superb job, the nun is creepy as hell looking (glad they went with the nun at the last second instead of the cliché demonic figure with horns they initially had), the Crooked Man was also a great character (the theme it had was awesome and I would absolutely buy that toy that was featured in the movie).

My only possible complaint for the movie was the CGI of the Crooked Man. I can't say for sure, but I believe a real person would have been better instead of using CGI. Some people will think the huge CGI Crooked Man that appears in the movie might be more silly and cheesy than scary looking. I say possible complaint, because I can't say for sure if a real actor would have been the better choice, because we'll never know.

Also, Valak (nun) was sent back to hell at the end of the movie. But, the Crooked Man was never really defeated. So, he must still be out there somewhere. WB needs to get a spin off movie going with The Crooked Man. Yes, I know they already announced a spin off movie for the nun. But, I actually would prefer a Crooked Man movie. Perhaps, it could be about the toy being played by a different family and then shows how the toy gets into the son's hands.

They could use this as the cover art, would fit perfectly and kinda remembers the first film art. I they don't, maybe I'll use this art to customize my copy when I buy it or do a slip.

This would be nice too

This was a great film, and I still have yet to see the first one. The scares were surprisingly effective, and it's shot/scored very well. It reminds me a bit of The Babadook with it's gloomy tone, and I liked it's 70s period setting. Vera Farmiga is amazing in everything she does, and I'm always fascinated with anything involved with The Amityville Horror. I almost wish this film explored that more. It never felt bloated though, even with it's long running time. I admire any sequel that's enjoyable without having seen any other film in it's respective franchise.

I have no idea why it was rated R though. It's spooky, but I can't remember any blood, gore, or even any cuss words. It was perfect the way it was, but I think it could've gotten by with PG-13 easily.

Because it's too scary. That's the reason the first was given a R rating.

LOL The sad thing is, you're probably right. The MPAA has gotten really bad with horror movies. They don't think anyone under 17 can handle being scared at all. By their logic, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island would be rated R if it was live-action.

That's the truth. I think they said it was too frightening or intense to be PG-13.

Even though there is no gore/nudity and such, it feels like an R. Its weird.

[Show spoiler]Only bad thing I can think of it when she has the vision and Patrick Wilsons character gets the thing through his chest.

According to James Wan, that wasn't CGI.

I really want to see this movie but don't think I'm gonna be willing to pay $20 for it day 1. Hoping it goes on sale along with the first movie during Black Friday this year.

Wan can say what he wants, there was some serious CGI or manipulation during the crooked man scene (is he insinuating they used a real dog and it really transformed!!!!). The whole theatre let out "what the...?" noises. I don't think it scared anyone. When it reappeared in the tent later on, that got scares!
