If there is a UHD coming from another studio it makes the whining even more unwarranted and annoying.

Dude no one's whining or being hostile here but you. Unplug and go outside if it bothers you so much. Nothing's gone off the rails at all.

There's been official announcement or confirmation that a UHD of IB is coming out in the territories that Arrow would likely release their version in. Only speculation based off a (Germany?) Pending release.

Arrow’s standard Blu-ray releases tend to rival the quality of 4K UHD presentations, from what I understand.

If Arrow puts their usual love into this release, then I’m probably all in.

Interesting that they're releasing this, but I'll probably be suckered in.

I’ll take an Arrow or Criterion over an UHD any day. But that’s just me. This is gonna sound weird for most people but picture quality isn’t THAT big of a deal to me. I think regular blu rays look incredible and honestly don’t see that much of a difference between them and 4K.

Well, this is a blu ray forum. The "No 4k, No sale" comments that appear in different threads are pointless.

Caring about picture quality to an obsessive extent is the determining factor for a film fan? That’s pretty sad.

Like I said I care about picture quality and blu ray picture quality is more then good enough to me. I hardly see any difference in 4K. I’ll take the Arrow version that’ll have far better supplements then the UHD will have.

I'll be grabbing both, because only fools fall in love.

Arrow has been having some bad luck with recent releases getting 4K releases soon after. First with Waterworld, then Oldboy and now this one.

They did it with various TV shows that were shot on film but edited on video, and which at the time nobody imagined would ever be shown in resolutions as high as HD. If they could dig up the original film elements of those shows, which are dozens of hours long, I'm sure they would have much less trouble doing it for a 2-3 hour movie.

Is this the first Tarantino film to get an Arrow release?

I’m betting that once the cover art gets revealed and it’s a sweet-looking digipak, all the QT nuts will come flooding into preorder city like a bunch of lemming methheads scurrying over the edge of a 1000 foot cliff.

...they’ll be double dipping like fat rednecks at Golden Corral.

Even though it’s not getting a new transfer (who knows, Arrow’s encode could be better than the MGM) I still wouldn’t call it irrelevant. For other people this might be their first time purchasing Robocop. Current owners will buy it again for the new cut and original audio, and whatever else they think is worth it. It’ll be relevant to somebody.

Don’t know what they’re planning for IB, but if it’s the usual Arrow treatment, same as I said above. I myself probably won’t be buying it.

You can’t always assume that uhd will have something substantial, like PQ. That’s not always the case.

Well what’s wrong with the Arrow versions of those movies now? Waterworld still has excellent PQ, 3 cuts of the movie, and a bunch of extras. What does the uhd version has do with anything?

Nothing is wrong. This forum just likes to ***** and moan.

The only advantage Waterworld’s UHD provides is DTS:X and HDR. If you just want the theatrical cut, it’s a decent release. If you’re not rocking a 4K/HDR set, the included Blu-ray is the same one from years and years ago.

If you want all three cuts shown in 1080p that were all sewn from the same 4K master alongside a full-length documentary and other bonus materials, the Arrow release is the way to go.

I don’t like Waterworld enough to upgrade it to 4K. The Arrow limited edition release is fine by me.

I'd bet that the Arrow Blu-ray outsold the UHD significantly. And considering how quickly the LE sold out I'd say they made a sizable profit on it. Hardly bad luck.
