A fine movie to be sure. I bought it for only $19.99! The PQ does get a high wow factor vote from me. I suppose this thread is mostly about PQ.
However, the SQ or AQ, doesn't get my vote. I was disappointed in the LPCM 5.1 track on the Blue Danube part after the Australopithicine throws the bone high in the air and becomes a PAM AM space ship a million years later. There's an annoying sound glitch that all of a sudden blares briefly to loud volume as if the sound engineer accidentally bumped the audio gain controlling the L/R fronts. It does it once more later on during the rendezvous flight to the space station. The Also... Z excerpts are ok. Now I realize that LPCM will likely have better dynamic range, but I never heard the Blue Danube like that unless that's what Herbert von Karajan intended. I always play LPCM 5.1 or 7.1 if it is available on the BD. I haven't heard LPCM tracks that were a disappointment to me except for the 2001: a S. O. Another audio disappointment is that I don't hear much coming from the surround channels. |

That is a take on the scene I have never thought of........ I looked at it as a cool transition point, but I didn't see the time-change, and certainly would never imply the bone evolved into a ship!!!! ha!

Am I the only one who was wowed by The Simpsons Movie? Perhaps it was just seeing The Simpsons in HD for the first time.
![]() Final Fantasy : Spirits Within was a wow, though would have been even more so if it had been Advent Children. Can't wait for that in Blu. ![]() |

on the review pages, The Simpsons got pretty good ratings for PQ, but I'm really anxious to do some head to head comparisons..... here's what I have.
I'm gonna connect my PS3 to HDMI I'm gonna leave my old Prog. Scan Sony DVD player hooked up via component I am going to use a movie I have on SD, and the same movie on Blu, and compare. a) Blu-ray vs. SD (certain to garner a "wow" or two! ) b) SD- vs. Upconverted SD on the Blu player c) Blu vs Upconverted SD on the Blue player That should be a pretty good point of reference for me, and help me decide what titles I want to re-purchase on Blu, and what ones I'll be content with the upconversion. |
