I was going to pick up total recall when I get my PS3 today, but I read it was a bad transfer. I will ultimately buy a lot of movies, but for right now, the first couple, I want that "WOW" feeling of first time blu-ray.
I'm thinking about getting Reservoir dogs, and Blade Runner, but what movies are out there that I'm gonna be floored by the resolution on, but also are GOOD MOVIES. I don't want to buy ratatouli or whatever it is, or anything of that sort. Please just list all of the "WOW" movies you can think of! thanks, |

So I take it "Cars" is out? (While I'm not a big fan of that particular movie, the BD transfer is indeed about as "wow" as they get).
I like any of the Pirates -- "Davy Jones" is the one I saw on an HDTV in store at BB that "wowed" me enough to convince me it was time to go to BD. They are all great transfers, though. |

most of your wow movies will be the animated films, Open Season is a good one because the do not blur the background it is all in focus....I am still looking for that wow also...all I have found so far is... that's better but was it really worth it, movies.... don't let me lie to you Galapagos is pretty wow but I think it has to do with the scenery plus HD quality....let me know if you find that wow movie, I am sure future BRD's will contain that wow we are looking for....I can't wait

Technically, The Wild wasn't a product of Disney Feature Animation, it was a film distributed by Disney (though some development work was done at Disney over the years). I think Cars would have to take the prize for Best 1st Time Wow movie. Then again, as long as you don't care about actual plot and diaolg, Ultraviolet is pretty stunning as a piece of high def eye candy. Others would have to include Planet Earth, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Ratatouille. |

O.K. just hear me out! I have a lot of movies, so I'd like that first one viewed to be something I don't already own. Also, I don't really care for the POTC movies (saw the first one, thought it was dumb) I love 2001, so although I have it, I may want to pick it up. I was trying to find new releases that were big "wow" movies, but I don't see anything out that is tempting I guess...... I'm gonna look up Crank or whatever you said it was called, as I have not heard of it.
thanks, |

I got my PS3 a week ago and am watching movies that I had bought before. I have watched 4 of my collection of 23 so far and they all are "WOW". Here's the list with order according to my impression:
1. Apocalypto: PQ/AQ is excellent! It was a bit gory but very unique and absorbing. 2. The Day After Tomorrow: Great PQ/AQ. The special effect looks awesome on blu. 3. Casino Royale: Excellent PQ/AQ. Great movie! 4. Galapagos: Very Beautiful and informative nature documentary. PQ is great but AQ is OK (only DG 2.0). Still worth getting! Hope this helps... |

I'll stay away from apocolypto just because it looks like complete rubbish to me, but to each his own. I am anxious to see some of my old favorites up-converted. I'm told the PS3 does one of the best up-conversion jobs, so we'll see.
I'm definitely picking up Blade Runner just because I love that movie. I'd like to pick up The Last Waltz on Blu too, but probably not today because my local "worst buy" probably won't have it. Maybe I'll try out that Sunshine movie, I read about Crank, and it looked terrible. |

Okay, not listing any of the Pirates movies or animated ones, try one of these:
2001 A Few Good Men Apocalypto Black Hawk Down (except for a short opening sequence) Blade Runner Casino Royale Crank Day After Tomorrow Deja Vu The Descent (mostly in the dark though so probably not a good demo disc) Pan's Labyrinth Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Fifth Element (remastered) Live Free or Die Hard Kingdom of Heaven Remember the Titans The Rock Layer Cake Man on Fire Hellboy Hollowman Mr. & Mrs. Smith Spiderman 3 Shoot 'Em Up Planet Earth (most of it looks really good) Sunshine (although there is a little noise in some scenes but overall, it looks really good. It's probably my favorite movie at the moment). |

C.O.R.E. Feature Animation did the work for Disney. The Wild is copyrighted to Disney. http://www.coredp.com/fa_thewild.html "Early in 2006, C.O.R.E. Feature Animation delivered the animation for Walt Disney Pictures feature, THE WILD." Let me rephrase my post then... Pictures from Disney have the best PQ. ![]() Last edited by dadkins; 01-23-2008 at 06:18 PM. |
