I suppose this one hasn't technically had a formal "announcement" yet, but Arrow revealing their plans to (eventually) release David Lynch's Dune was a pleasant surprise.
Was also a bit surprised to see Buck Rogers get a stateside release. Same for The War of the Worlds (1953). I think Amazon Women on the Moon and Kino announcing they're putting out Spaceballs in 4K next year were the biggest surprises of 2020 for me, though. Of course, the least surprising non-announcements continue to be True Lies and The Abyss. Edit: I stand corrected. The theatrical version of the Buck Rogers pilot getting an HD upgrade as part of its US release was the year's single biggest surprise. Didn't see that one coming at all. Not that it'll be known this side of the pond (& hardly known in the UK), but a 1959 British WW2 POW mass escape film, Danger Within, it's been a favourite of mine for years, & it's never had any home theatre releases, & just a battered old print on TV every now & again. It's just been released on DVD & Blu-ray by the UK company, Network. Now that was a nice surprise.

Yeah, it's great. The artist clearly understood the satirical aspect of the movie. For me the artist who did the cover for Criterion's release completely missed the point.
