3K to spend? Look for somethng with 1080p/24, 25,000:1 contrast, 5:5 120Hz frame rate, 3 HDMI, Deep Color, USB, and a brand name like Sony, Samsung and your 'set' to go.

I have read about 250,000:1 contrast LED LCD, but have not seen it yet. Go to tweeters, they may have it. The S&V page has some good info on this set up against the Kuro.

samsung 4671
kuro 50"

I watch sports, movies and NO gaming or computer use. Have sony bd300 bluray in hands already. Light in room will not be an issue after trip to Lowes for some mini blinds for upper windows.
LCD's seem to draw my eye due to brightness while plasmas have great clarity to MY eye.

INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
Thanks again!

Don't get the 46" samsung 4671! If you're willing to spend $3000.00, Best Buy has the Samsung - 52" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV, Model: LN-T5271 on sale for $2999.99!

Talk about a deal!

Go get it!

Default ok...solved issue

sauntered into best buy....
did return and it was effortless... like how they check TV out before taking it back because this makes me think buying open box there isnt a bad thing fwiw.
Ok off to the land of sweet pricing on XBR4's and they definately are bright. Talked with the sales guy... we dragged a 52" xbr4 up near the pioneer pdp-5080 which is only 720p.( way less reflections than panny 700u)
A lil hdmi and a panny blu ray later...poof instant comparison face to face.
That really was fun...the xbr loves 1080p....

bought the pdp5080 though... easy decision when side by side. Yeah the xbr is great...best lcd out there...as good as most plasmas out there but...as i learned today...Pioneer isnt most plasmas...

looked at the 1080p pioneer and when comparing price...
1080p 4299.99
720p 2149.99
another no brainer.... not a 2100.00 pq difference!
I am not the greatset home theatre guy on here... I am sure there are several reasons for others to get the xbr....all valid
I watch sports, high def tv and blurays(maybe 2x a week)
No computer or gaming here.
That all said....got it home...hooked it up and yeah for me this tv is a perfect fit. HDTV is great and watched Diehard(3) and was excellent.
Reflections were a non issue....
all is good in my world now!!!
Thanks
sincerely,
-me

So... you bought a 720p TV to watch movies that are 1080p?

everytime ive been to best buy, the Pioneer 720p sets looked better than most 1080p sets...and that was even standing up close.

A 720p better than a 1080p? Well, I guess to each their own. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I would take a 720P Pioneer over a lot of 1080P TVs. I wouldn't take it over a Pioneer 1080P TV though....

picture quality has a lot more to do with than just line resolution...after a certain distance, the benefit of 1080p over 720p is negligable.

but overall, the Pioneer plasmas produce exceptional color, contrast, deep ass blacks etc...
and yes, better than most (not all) 1080p sets.

Default yeah I did buy....

a 720p over a 1080p. Well from what I can tell the best 720p I have ever seen. I watch.... 2??... movies a week and in the summer maybe 2 a month. I am remotely considering bringing this 5080hd back for the pioneer 1080p IF I can rationalize the need for it.
Simple economics 101 is:

Pioneer 720p $2049.99
Pioneer 1080p ummm $4299.99 ( I think)
_________________________________
That is a $ 2,250.00 difference for 8 movies a month....
I could get the xbr4 and get the full effect of Blu Ray but.... my sports, HDTV movies etc would NOT be as good and FOR ME the Pioneer is a better fit.
The Blu Ray is great on this Pioneer.... is it 1080p? Nope but the colors and blacks are stunning. Wondering what a calibration will do????????? I will have to find out how to use search portion of this site....
BTW.... very informative site... thanks everyone for making me feel welcome!
Sincerely,
-Me
