I just hope that this is the last time the CE companies do this to their customers (twice is enough). It was a very frustrating experience for us early adopters and it has a very expensive investment to the consumers that supported HD DVD.

But I am very happy that the format war is over. I am also very happy that when I see a movie in a theater I will not have to worry about which format the movie will be manufactured on with respect to HDM. The answer is Blu-ray for now on.

This will not be the last time a format war happens. It's happened 3 times so far in the video world. Betamax/VHS, DVD/Divx, Blu-ray/HD DVD. It will happen again. I'm sure Toshiba and Sony/Panasonic have plans for the next optical or whatever format will come after Blu-ray.

So true. Bill Hunt, as always, well researched, well reasoned - good job.
Looking forward to the future!

Bill Hunt is THE man....he took the words right out of my mouth: IT'S ABOUT GODDAMN TIME!!!

TWO frickin' years of grief inflicted on us HT enthusiasts.

Someone needs to pay IMO: Toshiba, Universal, Paramount.
And last, but not least: Microsoft.

It has been said, corporations are like animals: they learn only when it hurts.
Therefore, in order to teach the above mentioned parties (and anyone else) that any future Format War will cause them great pain, I urge my fellow HT enthusiast to withhold your hard-earned $$ from these bastards of the Consumer Electronics industry.

This is the only message that will dissuade others from starting yet another Format War someday....
