In oder :

1. Region Code (what's this, the Dark Ages?????)
2. The PS3 being unable to resume a movie at the position you stopped it after you turned it off. [Not really a BLU-issue, but sort of related]. Hey, my 7 year old Sony DVD could do that (even if you removed the DVD from the tray and put it back (!!!!!)) and it didn't come with a 80GB harddisk ...
3. Paramount

Overall though, I would have to say my biggest disappointment has been the audio on Superman Returns. I saw this in the theater three times and the sound sucked every time, so I was expecting to be able to blow myself away with the BD, but such is not the case. And even worse, the HD DVD at least has TrueHD. With any luck though, the PCM version will be in my hands soon!

The Paramount defection was a rough, and the red ants going wild about their "Transformers" was even worst.

This is what has upset me the most since joining Blu-ray. WB and its subpar encodes on top tier movies like Harry Potter and many others..not to mention not getting Matrix and Batman Begins while HD-DuD receieved them.

as a htpc user: BD+

because it forces me to use PowerDVD and doesn't allow me to enjoy the better pq of my direct show filter players.

Seeing a scratch running down Robert De Niro's face for a few seconds in "GoodFellas". That should have been digitally repaired. It's only a film by some guy named Martin Scorsese.

Toshiba should have caved in and make a deal with the BDA back in 2004. It would have saved us all 18 months of trouble.

Yep, too bad that never happened....

BUT... hardware and software prices did go down alot quickly because of the war. I would be curious, if there was no war, what a BD player would cost right now.

Considering how young BD is, players are priced very well.

What was a DVD player in 1999? More than 400 I bet.

I'd have to say the large number of bd's with just the same old crappy Dolby Digital audio track as dvd. I bought a lot of disks for months before I purchased a PS3 thanks to big discounts and bogo sales while not paying as much attention to the audio specs as I should have. Even worse, companies like Warner shafting us while giving hd-dud disks higher quality audio tracks for the same titles. What was the reasoning behind that?

I'm a lot more savy now and audio specs play a big part in what gets purchased.

For sure, the audio is just a big of selling point as the video in my books as well.

While EVERYONE hates the paramount decision. The one thing that pissed and continues to piss me of is Samsungs complete lack of firmware support for their blu-ray players. I mean, seriously, having to wait 5 months for a firmware update just to watch the BD you just bought is complete bullshit.

The Paramount/Dreamworks thing was easily the biggest for me as it was announced on my birthday. I was so mad about that one.

The other one was just the frustration of having to buy The Bourne Ultimatum on regular DVD, as it was one of my favorite movies of 2007. I knew that was gonna be that way obviously, but still just the frustration of not having a choice as a consumer!

...so glad it's over and I look forward to the consumer choices that will be available to us all in the (hopefully) near future!

region coding.
warner's use of DD5.1 and VC1 with crappy HD DVD transfer. It's noticeable.

My biggest disappointment has to be with Apple actually. There was rumor that they would unvail their new MAC Air's with BD drive in them and nothing. And now they just updated their MACbooks again without a BD drive again. What is the hold up!! HD DUD is done and your on the flippin BDA board. Apple quit dragging your feet your, HD iTunes deal is NOT going to work 720p come on really Steve Jobs, your so innovative but really 720p? I thought you guys had a crystal ball or something? Taking a break I guess and that is why your stock has PLUMMETED since MAC World. Get off your high horse Apple!

For me it had to be Stargate. The picture was really grainy and the fact that the subtitles have to be turned on for the entire movie to get them for the alien language dialogue. A big disappointment.

I personally think the Paramount day I remember after watching Transformers in the theater my brother was talking about what the blu ray would be like and to have to break the news to him sucked but on a bright side how about the day they announced HDDVD was throwing in the towel by far the best for Blu right behind the release of the PS3

When my wife sent "3:10 To Yuma" back to Netflix before I got a chance to watch it. :-)

I think the biggest disappointments I've had are do to PQ. There's nothing worse than putting in a Blu-ray and then going... ehhhh is that it? Especially after seeing what the thing can really do.
