i understand this and am really looking forward to it i was talking about him saying he was waiting for it to decode true-hd. right now it can decode tru-hd and send it pcm it just can not send it bitstream. from what i have been reading bit-streaming of the hd codecs can't be done because of the hdmi chip. by all means please tell me i'm wrong, i would love for it to. however i wouldn't ditch the ps3 for a standalone as i don't have a problem with player format conversion lol i don't like calling it decoding as it is still in the digital world

The PS3 WILL be able to decode DTS-HD (as it constitutes the majority of Blu-ray players right now). Just not for a little while yet.

it will do decoding for DTS HD-MA with firmware update, but it will not BITSTREAM DolbyTrueHD and DTS HD-MA

Kudos to Sony, yes. But dropping the ball? You mean for not having DTS HDMA in the first place? If so, think about the BD players out there that were developed long after the PS3 that did not decode DTS HD MA.

no...my argument was not including it in the BD-Live 2.0 update...i felt sony dropped the ball at that point... many speculated that we would then have to wait for another 3 months or more for DTS-MA
fortunately Sony fell on its own fumble and got up and ran it in for a TD!

yeah + the fact that you dont always get what you want in first gen players, people should be lucky the ps3 can firmware update and change its capabilities, if you remember first gen dvd players didnt have progressive scan nor did they have "up converting"....

They DID however have a price tag higher than what a PS3 costs today. Literally, and that same price was in 1997's money.

I recommend the Onkyo range from the 605 upwards.These will do everything you need via hdmi,pcm up to 7.1, dts-hdma, truehd etc.Plus all have 1080P passthrough
