Probably cause it was filmed with an old super 8 camera, pretty much the cheapest lowest quality camera possible. There isn't much they could do to improve over the DVD versions.

except better colors

and better audio

and native HD picture, even if it isn't that detailed

I don't know about you, but I would much rather look at a native HD picture that's soft than a SD picture blown up to 1920x1080.

Well I hate to tell you that it probably won't happen, since Universal has the rights to AOD, whereas Starz/Anchor Bay have the first two movies.

I am anticipating the eventual AOD Blu-Ray, and hopeful for an eventual Evil Dead 1 release...

Lol, Evil Dead was NOT shot on Super 8. It was shot 16mm film, which has higher-than-blu-ray resolution. The recent remaster looked pretty decent, so there's no reason it can't be a fine blu-ray release.

An HD release will certainly be better than the current DVD.

It needs to be completely redone. Start over and do it right this time. The PQ has a strange effect the entire movie. Its like watching it through glass with grain on it, but it is not grain. Disapointing, but hey.... Its Dead 2.

Netflix doesn't have every thing in Blu, they don't have Evil Dead II. But they have a pretty big selection.

Screenshots of this release look terrible. It's one of my favourite films, but I won't buy a high-definition release until they restore it properly. Hopefully the upcoming Blu-Ray release of the first film doesn't have faces that look like waxworks.

ED2 looked fine to me. I see no point in a release of the first film. It was shot on cheap 16MM film. It's not going to offer a significant benefit on BD.

Maybe not, but it can still look better. Besides, Discs 1 and 4 of my Trilogy doesn't work properly anymore because I've watched it so often over the years, and if I'm going to re-buy it I'd like it to be an improvement (the Trilogy boxsets are hard to come by now, and the 3-disc release is Region 1 only.)

I hope they offer the full screen version of Evil Dead when it is released on blu-ray. After seeing that on the Ultimate DVD for the first time since my VHS, I never realized how cramped and terrible the widescreen frame is. Since anchor bay is considering releasing the ultimate edition of Dawn of the Dead, it is quite conceivable that they will release the Ultimate edition of Evil Dead. I'm not sure I'll purchase a widescreen copy. I'll probably hold out and pray we get full screen someday.

I'm still waiting impatiently for the release of Evil Dead 1 since I never got around to purchasing the DVD (just the VHS years back). I would love to see a nice upgrade, despite the whole "low-budgetness." One of my favorite horror films.

I just got EDII in a bundle with the original Dawn and Day of Dead. I'll check it out soon and share my opinion.

Whether it's 480i or 1080p, it's still going to look like a cheap grainy film. With the advanced resolution, it may actually look worse bringing out more defects in the cheap filmstock.

The Ultimate Edition DVD offered both 1:33:1 and cropped versions of the film. If the Blu-Ray release is based on the 3-disc set, it should use both ratios.

Kryptonic - If the Blu-Ray release is able to capture the rough, grainy nature of the film, I'll consider that a positive instead of a negative.

The DVD is maintains the grainy rough texture of the film just fine. Anymore grain and it'd have to be renamed Evil Grain because that's all you'd see!
