View Poll Results: Should EA include Michael Strahan as a playable charater in Madden 09?
If they are going to include Favre, they should include Strahan as well. 28 49.12%
One retired player is enough. Favre only! 8 14.04%
I don't think they should include anyone that is retired. 21 36.84%

Default Madden 09 - Michael Strahan vs. Brett Favre

Brett Favre, the darling of the NFL and also, Madden 09 cover-boy will be a playable character in Madden 09. Even though Favre is newly retired from football and is not playing this year (baring any major catastrophe to Aaron Rogers), Favre is still going to be included as a playable character on the Madden 09 roster in some form.

Will EA do the same for Michael Strahan? Only two days into his permanent vacation, Michael Strahan leaves behind a career almost as stellar as the Green Bay legend himself.

Here are a few of Strahan's accomplishments:
  • 15 years with the same team (NYG)
  • 141.5 Sacks
  • Single Season Sack Record (22.5)
  • Superbowl (against "The Greatest Team of All-Time" or what would have been the Greatest of All-Time.)

Not a bad resume.

I think that if EA is going to put Favre in Madden 09 as a playable character, they should do the same for Michael Strahan.

What do you think?

As a Patriots fan I've seen both of these guys beat my team in the Super Bowl, so it isn't like I'm biased against one. Still, to compare Strahan to Favre is a joke. Farve has most of the major passing records, and is a 3-time MVP. Strahan has the single season sack record, which Favre gifted to him in the last game of the season by intentionally giving up a sack. In addition, I don't believe Strahan is definitely done. If the Giants called him tomorrow and offered him the $8 million salary he wanted I think he'd strongly consider returning.

Strahan has NEVER had anyone on the line with him that gave him help. He's been double and triple teamed his entire career. Yesterday, Strahan said on an interview on the NFL Network that he only faced single blocking his first season. What does that tell you.

Anyone that has any football knowledge knows that DE's don't get League MVPs. That remark is ridiculous.

He must have forgotten about this past season.

Because Justin Tuck had 10 sacks and Umenyiora had 13. I'm pretty sure when he was in there he faced some one on one matchups this year with those two racking up double digit sacks.

One could say they had that success because they had to double team Strahan.

Ummm, why are we comparing apples and oranges, QB vs DE???...I think Farve is the most overratted quaterback in NFL history and I can name 10 QB's who had more defining moments in their career...lets see:

1) Elway
2) Montana
3) Unitas
4) Brady
5) Bradshaw
6) P. Manning
7) Starbauch
8) Marino
9) Aikman
10)O.Graham/F.Tarkenton

Farve was an interception ***** who lost his team more chances at playoffs and Superbowls than any QB ever. Yes his career was good but come on to call him the "greatest" or even mention him as a top 5 is ridiculous. Top 10 maybe...

To put P. Manning above Farve at this point in Payton's career is insane! He has 0 career records and the same amount of SB rings and 1 less SB appearance, 1 less MVP. Numbers there. Starbauch...really? Name anything defining about him, no numbers. Marino lost all of his records to Farve. Aikman was blessed with some of the best talent EVER in his career. Brady...see Payton. I made the point earlier that it could be argued that Favre was top 3, not that he was.

Also, all of those QBs played at least one season with another offensive Hall of Famer. Farve hasn't. Think about that.

Please don't compare Favre to Payton. Peyton will own every single passing record known to man by the time he retires. It's not even close. Favre has 7 years on Payton. In 7 years Peyton will have long surpased every QB that has ever played. Payton has started every game since he was drafted. Favre sat in ATL. Peyton will own the Ironman record for QBs too if he remains healthy. He might even beat The real record held by Jim Marshall.

If you're speaking purely stat wise, Favre is top 16. If you're speaking purely beloved, he probably #1. Favre is the most loved QB. That's it.

*Jim Marshall holds the record for consecutive starts at 270 consecutive games.

Why did you put Graham & Tarkenton on the same line? That is 11.

Favre is in the Top 15 of all time. He was fun to watch because he improvised everything. Favre is also a great ambassador for the NFL. His Ironman record will never be broken 255 straight games as a QB. Amazing.

I think he will be included in some sort, as Madden games always have classic teams, and past superbowl champion teams.

But I also think you really cannot compare Favre to Strahan. He is not in the same overall ranking with Favre, not even close. Favre was league MVP what two years at least, and the best player in the league for at least 4 years, and the major reason his teams won superbowls (that is plural), where as Strahan was at best hanging on for the ride for the superbowl.

We also all known Favre had a big hand in that single season sack record.

To the last post, Favre was 1-1 in Super Bowls, Strahan was 1-1 in Super Bowls.

Ummm, As much as I hate to point this out Strahan was 1-2 in Superbowls. In 2000 we were killed by the Ravens 34-7, Strahan was on that team...

i think they should both be playable, with the addition that each can play each others positions. they will be dominate when playing the others positions as well, but have one fatal weakness.

For example, while brett favre on the defensive line will be super strong, fast, and a phenomenal tackler, he will randomly tackle his own teammate, which reflects his carelessness as a QB that often ends up in interceptions

Strahan on the other hand, will have a pass strength and accuracy of 99, but every once in awhile a dentist will have to be brought on the field, mid play, for a 5 second checkup to see if they can close the gap in his teeth.

This is a joke right? Although Mike Strahan is a great player, is not in the same NFL History as Brett Favre. Michael Strahan is an all-timer, but not in the top 3 at his position. #4 has every major career QB record, done.

Brett Favre rolls right, drops to his knees for an easy sack by Michael Strahan. They give each other big hug

  1. Montana
  2. John Elway
  3. Otto Graham SEE HERE: Otto Stats
  4. Terry Bradshaw
  5. Peyton Manning
  6. Tom Brady
  7. Dan Marino
  8. Steve Young
  9. Troy Aikman
  10. Brett Favre

If you think Favre is top 3 you're on crack. I love Favre, but he is not 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th.
