Well we can disagree. For being one of Warner's Summer 07 Gems, I doubt they spared much.

Instead of black bars, they will be pea green, with purple grain. The film will maintain its sepia look, but with green bars.

We should be studio execs.

I will only accept a grainless transfer in line with Shooter... and no black bars. Only extreme close-ups of the very center of the screen.

What's with all the black bar hate? I think films look better with that ratio.

Anyways, 300 was a good movie but not that good.

Yeah, that basically sums it up. Good enough to own, but not good enough to go out and buy multiple times because they make small tweaks.

For anyone who hasn't seen Casablanca, you really owe it to yourself to make it a purchase. A true classic.

Huh? It was a March release with a $65million budget. That hardly fits 'gem' or 'blockbuster' parameters. March is a slow month for releases, and I'd bet that about half of the $65million was on marketing. Obviously, if you liked it then that's great, plenty of other people did too, but let's not bend the facts.

I've been waiting on the PIP to pick up 300.
Once the SE is on sale I'll go in for it

I got 300 for free. I think I've watched it maybe twice since I got it 8 months ago. Not a lot of re-watch value. If the new cut is unrated and a DC, maybe I'll bite.

No double dipping for me - especially since I paid $24.99 for my new copy last July. Maybe if I picked it up for 10-15.00, but I didn't.

No way in hell I am getting duped into buying this POS again!

I'd sooner burn the money.

The movie itself is awesome and the grain is intentional to follow
Frank Miller's graphic novel but even with PIP on the re-release
I am happy with the current issue and no double dip for me.

If 300 has a high bitrate release with the PIP I think I would buy it again. The high bitrate for me would do it.

I agree. It lived up to my expectations when I finally saw it a few years ago, and immediately went out to purchase the 2-disc Special Edition (which Target happened to have on sale, at the time, for $10).

I'm not sure about a BD upgrade though. The audio probably won't be anything special (and I can't blame them for that), and the video I'd rather have somewhat crappier (assuming the BD one will be better) because it makes it feel more like an old movie. But maybe that's just me.

Audio wasn't anything spectacular on HD release, but it had superb picture quality and dispels the myth that black and white movies can't look good on blu. High-def Digest gave it 4 1/2 stars for picture and 3 1/2 for the audio.

300 isn't black and white . . . it uses very muted colors, but it's not b&w.
