Since the E.T. Directors edit ruined most of the respect I had for him, it was Indy 4 that scraped up whatever was left and threw it in the trash.

What a piece of garbage.

It is SIR Alfred Hitchcock. And then Sir Ridley Scott. And then Sir David Lean.

How can you even put Christopher Nolan in the ring as hes barely even started his career as a movie director?

Also he has only directed 8 movies total and been doing it for only 11 years.

He has directed movies that I've enjoyed, but to compare him to a director like Hitchcock is insulting.

I mean, atleast let him get more movies under his belt because by even speaking of him on a 'best director' is making him become overrated.

Since I've been alive (since '71) I'd have to say Ridley Scott and Stanley Kubrick. I think AFI? did their top 100 movies countdown, and both these directors were the only ones to have more than one movie listed.

Four of my favorite movies of all time were done by them - Alien, Blade Runner, Clockwork Orange and The Shining.

I'd also have to give a shout out to my fellow Canuck - David Cronenberg.

Crash, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch - all brilliant. His last film (Eastern Promises) kinda sucked though...

While I don't think Nolan is good enough to be mentioned here, I don't think we should discount him because he hasn't done enough movies. He hasn't done enough great movies. Stanley Kubrick only directed 10 major movies ( i'm counting Spartacus) and i think it's safe to mention his name when talking of the greats. Deep down I know Hitchcock probably "did more" for film, but Kubrick gives me goosebumps.

Munich is definitely one of his best. Just thought I'd clear that up for you.

No such thing as "the best director".
